Good points gentlemen. I have also been told similar about the outside air intake for my boiler. I am going to install the outside air on the pellet stove at camp like I said. I think I am now also going to install outside air intake for my boiler. Sometimes, not a lot, but sometimes I can get what is called "puffing" with the wood gun from too much fire in the box and not enough oxygen. When puffing occurs you can end up with a smoke smell in the house. Not good. So if I install outside air to air intake pipe that will solve that problem as well. I probably should have done this earlier. :emb: LOL

Finished install of pellet stove! YEAH! Took pictures inside and outside! YEAH! Lost my I-PHONE! YEAH! Oh frick! chit, god dam %*#()$#(!

First I did the outside air kit, then I finished chimney. Everything done. But, no need to fire it up then, I needed to go get posted signs on the next property line I had to tackle. I still had at least 2 hours before it got dark. Went down one side of the property and hung five posted signs. Took a while, lots of thick brush and chit. I had to clear some brush away in some places so they could be seen well. On my way back out to road I realized my I-phone had come right out of my holder that was still clipped to my jeans. Back tracking time. No find. Getting too dark. chit! Now I have to go out in the morning and hope there is still enough charge on the battery that when I call the phone with someone else's phone I can hear it. UGH!

But it is worse than that, that vent is going to pull air from the house up and out even when the stove is not burning.

That stove vent is a nice hole in the wall connected directly from the inside to the outside of the house.

When conditioning inside air one discovers that the fewer holes in the house the easier it is to heat or cool the place.

I did get a call from my wife before I lost it. And it did ring. So I am pretty sure I did not mute it after that. No need to. I only do that if I am starting work or at a rare movie theater.

My oldest daughter has the day off tomorrow. She is coming to help me find it at sun up. I gotta find that friggin thing. Pain in the azz. No, NO dear. The phone. The phone.

FOUND IT! Yeah! The volume was all the way up sllvblkk! Yeah! Took a while but I just kept back tracking and going to the places I had been. Daughter kept ringing it and after I thought we were running out of time I could here it ringing!

Here is a couple shots of the outside. Going to fire it up tonight and I'll give you a picture while it has a nice warm fire in it. I was glad there was a good overhang on the roof. This should keep any snow and ice from hurting the exhaust. I still wonder if I should build something over it to protect it from ice falling off the roof. Cold air intake installed! I also found a s.s. strap from my chimney I installed for stove and now use for boiler. I used that strap to support the upper part of the chimney. They only gave me one bracket with exhaust kit and I used that just above the cleanout.

Looks like I may have pulled the top back a little to far when I put that support there. Oh well.

Good news on the phone (I guess).

You might want to get that taken care of as any non vertical, vertical venting is additional restriction in the system (read this as can put one over the EVL limit for the vent size installed and cause bad burns).

You mean that little lean back towards the camp wall? I'll adjust strap so that it is perfectly plumb. I also used all the pipe that was in kit to finish off vertical. There are four sections above T clean out and then the elbow. I figured that would give good draft. Sound right?

There is a formula for calculating if your vent system will function properly given it's effective length. adding more vent can actually cause trouble and requires that the next diameter size up be used.

In effect too long a vent run causes burn issues for a given vent diameter. The above a certain diameter you get problems with the combustion blower not being able to push the standing air in the vent out or if the vent is outside the stove keeping the vent gases from condensing before they exit the system. One leads to poor burns and long ignition times (if the stove manages to generate enough of a reduced pressure in the fire box to close the vacuum switch) and the other to piles of ash at the vent where it goes horizontal and creosote in the vent system.

I just told him the none vertical isn't wanted and that there are rules to follow or problems result.

My vertical run is inside. Has a tee off the stove, up three feet, elbow and straight out with a terminal end cap. No vertical outside. Vertical outside pipe cools and can collect more soot. The three feet up was all I needed to prevent back puffing that might occure in a power outage, or some blustering winds. My son installed his stove out and up, but says he hasn't had any issues. But then he seems to be as anal as I am about cleaning the unit. Clean=best heat.
