Here's what worked for me and should work for you. it's cruel yet effective. buy you some glue traps and set them along where the birds roost. the traps need to have about a foot of fishing line attached to them so the bird can take flight and then hang there fluttering. leave them hang there dead and replace as needed to keep the fear in them. birds are smart enough to know their buddy is in deep trouble. if you can break the habit for a full winter you may have solved the issue.

House sparrows are invasive in the US.
So shooting them would help the ecosystem...

My wife would NOT let me do that! I gotta find a "more humane" way out of this... I do understand that plan though, and I get it! We have pond fish and when one dies, she's gotta have a "Burial"... :picard:

I understand completely, since killing is out then you need to go with exclusion. bird netting is cheap online to create a curtain over the open area? I use a 7' tall net on my blackberries to keep birds out

Seems like it should be Chrissy's job to clean the wood of all the bird droppings.
When I was back in grade school, my brother and I would go to the storage shed at night and shine sparrows on their nest and shoot them with a BB gun. Dad didn't object cause he knew the mess they made in the shed.
