    My uncle left me his 029 stihl. It has a 18” bar. I have a newer 455 rancher. How does this one compare? It’s still in perfect running order just needs cleaning

    Equal displacement I believe. I've never owned an 029, but I've owned a couple 455 ranchers and they were reliable. I think I would give the 029 the win if you plan to run a 24 inch bar on occasion.

    I have an 029 super and it works fine. It was used when I bought it and it still runs like the day I got it.

    Should be very similar to your 455 rancher. Good reliable saws.

    I had a 290 for six years no issue's
    Pull the limiters and a muffler mod and they run good.
    I've rebuilt 6-8 455/460 ranchers
    They are comparable saws
    With the 290 feeling a bit more torqier.
