"ibuprofen is my friend"… Hehehe… after my colioliofrogoscopy a few years ago, because I take a lot of Ibu, I asked the surgeon later how he felt about Ibu and the amounts I take. He said he has no problem with Ibu as long as I always have it with food. Said it wants to get thru the stomach wall if there's no food, but if it works for me, go with it. I try not to use it as much as possible, but I find it's effect after a good night's sleep (after bulling hard the day before) is dramatic, at least for me. My routine now is to go at it as hard as I can, use 800 mg Ibu that night, go easy the next day… repeat. It works well enough that I'm able and interested in doing more than I would otherwise, these days.

Had to grin with your thoughts on days gone by… a friend likes to say "The older I get, the better I was"… ain't it true… :D

A little twist on that thought.

    Another update.
After getting that small load of Oak at my sis-in-law's yesterday, I was tempted to get back in my own woods later in the day......until I tried standing after sitting for about 1/2 hour.
Fast forward to today, and I went back after the 2x trunk Maple here at ye' old homeystead.
This is about 13' of the smaller trunk that's left looking back at the root ball.
    IMG_20140425_142706_633[1].jpg
Looking back to the top of the tree.....ended up with 24 rounds and still a few more to go in the trunk, plus lots of small branch wood.

The deer were obviously hungry this winter.....

That trunk is about 12" DBH, and the other is about 14", so not too big.
Where it is made it a pain to get to and then get it out.
I took little breaks to catch my breath.
This is a shot of the swampy stuff just on the other side of these trunks. Not a great shot, but there's standing and running water down there.
That's the Spruce (horizontal) that's in the rootball with the Maple.

Trust me, slow and steady is my middle name.
I've spent a total of maybe 4.5-5 hours in the last 3 days getting this Maple and Oak.
Cutting and hauling 24 rounds in 1.5 hours today isn't exactly speedy.:)

"Cutting and hauling 24 rounds in 1.5 hours today isn't exactly speedy." … sounds like we're on the same page Mr Papa. Perfect speed. The trick for me is to… completely not care how long it takes… to enjoy being in the woods… stop a lot to take it all in… then, have fun on the forum showing the rest of us, who love it, what went on… :tree::axe:

    Paradise…

After loading and unloading 2 trailer loads and doing some cutting, my back is telling me I should be more active in the winter.
Like you Dave I gotta pace myself

And, that's good advice no matter what age we are. If I'd been a little less stupid when I was younger, I might not be dealing with the issues I have now… :emb:

Stopping to smell the roses....or, see what that tapping noise up above was. Turns out it was a "tapping on a tree bird".:)
Point is, I stopped enough to keep from keeling over.
Gotta go help my sis-in-law with some stuff tomorrow, so I may get back in the woods over there too. The saw, etc. will be with me....you know, just in case.
Pics to follow if I do.

No such thing as easy firewood, some is just easier than other ;)
By the end of summer, you'll be wearing a size or 2 smaller clothes

(PS: if you keel over, can I have your saw ? LOL :) )

I'd be more than happy to trade someone my Husky (as in large and heavy) for a leaner, more powerful saw.
Pretty sure no one on here is goofy enough to do that.
You are so right Dave. Getting firewood from the forest is much more work than getting a log load dumped in the drive.
However, neither are what I'd call easy.
I'd really like to drop about 35 lbs. If I could hit 200, I'd be a pretty happy camper.

55 is a good saw IMO. Fairly light weight.
I have a 359, 60 cc but basically the same features. 12 lbs empty & without the bar & chain.
Stihl is about 1 to 2 lbs heavier comparing cc's.

Great exercise & as long as I keep a decent pace, I enjoy it.
Got chilled tonight stacking wood in the shed, got windy, so I quit :)

The forum makes it more fun to bounce projects & a days accomplishments around with guys who understand & enjoy it too.

Quick note, that's the biggest reason I bought my 55, 11.5lbs
