I hope you guys don't have them move this thread; if you don't like it, you can just stop reading it! IMO, forum websites are far too divided into sub-forums. Forums need movement, and threads provide movement. There isn't a thing wrong with a chainsaw post in Wood Pile. And if anyone hasn't noticed, the gent, Mr. Happy Sawer, who started the thread is around 80. It's a miracle he can even type! Just kidding, sir! I'm going back to read my Stihl catalog. As I drool ogling pics of a Husqvarna battery saw.

Well there is a chainsaw section on this forum and it could have been posted there. I like to think the guys who designed the forum knew what they were doing.
It is easier to find past information when it is categorized.

I agree we really need to stay with cutting firewood and how it's used, with my posting about fuelinjected chainsaws it just pushed it off the real forums subject matter.

All this chainsaw talk has me planning a trip to candy land after Christmas. I got 600 or maybe 2k headed my way. Might trade off the 288 for a 660, 661. or maybe he’s ready to let go of the cherry 288. If I remember I’ll get pics of a clean 054 and 056 for the saw porn thread.

Well I have been doing more research on my cut off saw Stihl TS 500 I and have found that there is an injector that sits toward the bottom of the crankcase and it is there that the fuel is injected into the saw.
That means there has to be a throttle body of some sort to control air coming into the saw. From what I can gather this is something that snowmobile engines have been doing for quite some time.
So even though this is new to chainsaws like the Stihl 500 I it is not entirely new technology for 2 stroke engines.
I also understand if my information is correct that an injector can cost up to 200 dollars if it goes bad. I guess you want to be sure of your diagnoses before replacing one.

I think it will take longer than 5 - 7 years but stranger things have happened.

Battery tech future was/is proceeding somewhat more slowly than anticipated and hey, we were all supposed to have flying cars by now too. LOL

    LOL
Terrafugia has been building proof-of-concepts and even production prototypes since 200X. They've all been retired in most part because their designs keep getting usurped by the advancements of technologies. It takes them so long they keep ending up back at the drawing board starting over.
There are other prototypes out there but no one gets to making appreciable production runs of product.
Considering how some people drive I'm not so sure flying in the same context is such a good idea anyway.
But, would they be good black locust hunting vehicles.

In regard to sleds and EFI. Early models that adopted EFI were really TBI, the carb with injector(s) in it. That was in the early 90's. Then they started to get more complicated and more powerful, and wanted/ needed lower emissions. Most are either semi direct injection, or straight up direct injection. Polaris did have 4 injector (cleanfire 4) models in the around 2006 or so. Those models had an injector in the crankcase as well as in the intake tract. There were also cleanfire 2 models that only had the 2 injectors ( 1 per cylinder) and those were more reliable and Polaris went away from this 4 injector setup, and were able to keep power levels high without the extra issues.

Here's some great reading on EFI in sleds, from a couple of years ago. https://www.snowmobile.com/products/fuel-injection-systems-in-todays-twostroke-600s-1775.html
A little has changed, but not a lot since this article. It's already about 8 years old. You could definitely take info from this as sleds are a good number of years ahead in EFI/ fuel delivery tech than chainsaws. Computer controlled carburetors like m tronic were out in the late 90's, a good 25 years ago. We had a 94 Polaris 500 EFI ( TBI) and still have a 97 Yamaha venture with the "smart carb" which would sense atmosphere and temp and adjust metering on the fly, much like m tronic or huskys auto tune. Now husky does make EFI 2 stroke dirt bikes, so that could happen too.
