I had a SkiDoo that was acting up. I didn't have time to fix it so I took it to Johnny Ks in Youngstown. They "fixed" it and I picked it up when it got back from a trip between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Backed it off the trailer and took one lap around the field. Back on the trailer and back down to Johnny Ks for them "to make it right". The first bill was 500'ish.

It sat down there for nearly a year, I bought an Arctic Cat F8 LXR in the mean time. They couldn't figure out what the problem was. Supposedly they had Rotax on the phone, had a tech from Rotax come to their shop and still couldn't figure it out. I brought the sled home after paying another 400 (never deal with Johnny k again). I didn't even start it, I sold it to a guy while it was on the trailer telling him the whole story.

He got it home and it ran crappy. He took it to his buddy at his dealership and they diagnosed the cracked intake manifold with a can of carb and choke cleaner. He said it ran great for years after that. I doubt Johnny Ks did anything on the return. I'm wondering if they actually did anything the first time.

I could go on about the deficiencies of small engine service departments for pages. But it’s futile. Because these are not generally high-dollar items that command highly sophisticated tech support like a modern automobile would. And wishing for better techs is a tough row to hoe too. You can train folks all you want. You have to start with somebody that has the “want to” AND the discipline. Then you can work on the “how to” technical details. And after all of that, either you have the gift or you don’t. Nobody has a diagnostic flowchart out there for every single problem, but I know Stihl and other OEMs already make that type of job aid readily available to their dealers.

And if you are that talented at diagnosing electromechanical problems in machinery, the sad reality is, the industry just isn’t competitive with salary. You can make more in most other mechanical fields just by showing up, let alone having any real talent. Keep in mind, even a small engine tech generally owns his own tools too, eating into whatever he makes.

Yup, you nailed it and some are like the stihl dealer close to me that think if it says stihl on it can't be running bad. they always blame you. not to mention the most arrogant and rude people around. They never smile and make you feel welcome and these are the owners. I been in a few dealerships like that. I avoid going in there like the plague. all my equipment is stihl because there is no husky's around except at home depot. if we had a good husky dealer here, some of my stuff would be from them. There is an ACE hardware about 60 miles from me and they are a stihl dealer, super nice people and great to deal with. I try and save up to make purchases from them when I'm in that area which is a shame since the rude dealer is only five miles away.

Stihl Sawing, I drive 60+ miles round trip to deal with pleasant people who don't rape me on part orders like the one closest to me.

I used to run all stihl bars and chains, but after dealing with them I started ordering bars and chains online. now most of my stuff is Oregon GB and other brands. I'm not a logger but most of the wood I cut is oak and fairly decent size. the rude folks are also a Deere dealer. their not bad on price though, just make you feel you're wasting their time. I doubt these owners could even make it working at wal mart with their attitudes.

I have been running a 661 around the wood pile this year. I was advised when I purchased the saw to keep it running. The power companies moved off this saw around here because during cleanup they tend to shut them on and off cleaning downed trees. Cutting a few rounds and shutting her down maybe your problem. I let mine idle or make sure I have run it hard through a half dozen big cuts. I have put 25 tanks through it to empty, refilled and started hot each time. Also do not choke it at restart. Hope that helps. My saw loves to eat wood. Good luck with yours and push the dealer to make it right.

Didn't dump gas on the air filter, but did pop the gas cap. After two pulls it was flooded when starting it how your supposed to. Pulled the plug let it dry did not choke it and flooded. That's what makes me think it the fuel mixing solenoid again because that is what it has done before!

Welcome to the club! You'll like it here. As for my 661 I don't just make a few cuts and shut it down. When I use it it gets used alot not just a couple of cuts. And when it's hot I don't choke it when I restart it. I just need to find some time to buy a tune able carb and be done with this.

Is the 661 able to be reworked with a normal carb ? And get rid of the fuel mixing solenoid ?

I've run several 066s . Fell timber with Lots of guys that ran them. Great saw ! I just prefer the 394+395 Husqvarna . Mostly because , if I'm running a saw of close to 100 cc I'm pulling a long enough bar ( 32-50") that the stretched out handle bars on the Husky are Much more comfortable for me. And it has a bit more snort. And lastly they vibrate much less.
The 460 has been one of my favorite saws. I've had 4 of them and 1 046.

All you need to do is unplug the wiring to the original carb let it hang inside the airbox, take out the original carb and bolt on a WJ-69 carb! I believe that it's the same carb that the 066 and 660 use.

Yes there was metal in it some where. The owner said that his son had a tree house up where the first big branches come out of the trunk, approximately 20' up. And yup the old saws are still beating out the new saws! Hahaha it's just a matter of me getting some time to get that tunable carb ordered. I've been really busy remodeling my kitchen, I am almost done!
