Burnt gear oil is worse...like torching off bolts or heating stuff to get off cooking oil inside

There is a point where too much tackiness is a bad thing . years ago we ran rock drill oil for bar oil. There were 2 weight grades available to us in Southeast AK. The heavier grade would ruin the oiler pump in many saws so we ran the lighter grade . the heavier grade would make a lunger that would stretch for 15 feet or more. The lighter grade around 10 feet. Chevron bar oil would go 5-8' long strings when ya dipped a finger in it then flipped it off.

I have sheep as well, but my logging is quite spread out in the forest, so I am not too concerned about them. Eventually it will be pasture, but the soil will be well turned over a lot by that point.

I run whatever oil; mostly hydraulic oil as it is cheap.

I will also run vegetable oil for bar and chain oil and am pretty sure that is what the biodegradable bar and chain oil base oil is made out of.

I cleared out a spot away from the pasture to do all of the milling. Going to pick up some of the BioOil tomorrow. Also going to look into natrual tackifiers to add to all this fractionated coconut oil I have.

I also have chickens roaming everywhere here. If there is a safe lubricant then I am game.

Sorry, I never disclosed that. If I was just harvesting random downed trees, I wouldn't really care. Milling and potentially bucking a lot of wood in one spot gives me concern with the chickens. We plan on doing goats eventually too. When that happens, there will be a lot more wooded paddocks.

Sometimes I come across logs that have some termites in them. The chickens love to go to town on these. Again, it would be nice to have peace of mind.

We’ve had goats for a few years now and they are pretty entertaining. Sheep all seem to have the same personality but goats are all individuals. Entertaining and a lot like dogs but usually one of them seems discontent about something so hard to make them all happy. If there is a danger around they will find it and attempt to kill themselves. We love having them but between just doing stupid things and worms it can be a rough go:).
