This dealer should be begging Stihl to give you a new saw.

Wouldn'tyou always be trying to start it with the filter on? Since you never know when it would act up that would mean that you would always be doing hot restarts without the filter right?

Seriously. You are being too nice to your dealer. Tell them you want a brand new saw or your money back. These band aid fixes are total bullchit. You paid good money for a saw that doesn’t run. Stihl please step up and help this guy!!!

What I and several others are asking the op to do are mere diagnosis. Its pretty hard to trouble shoot a problem 2nd hand.

If we can arm the op with the correct knowledge of why the saw is failing he will be in a better position when he walks in the dealer. And maybe it will get repaired correctly.

Yep I know what your doing. I just read your post as " have you tried starting it with the filter on" hahaha. I was like what? Normal people always do that. Then I read it again. Ha

I really have a distain for the hd2 filters. I have seen them fuel soaked and clogged with fines on numerous occaisions. They really need to washed to be considered "clean".

Are you seeing this with all the hd2 or just on the larger saws?

I run a pre fliter on my HD setup. Catches all those fines and you can blow or brush them off easier

I agree by arming the op with facts is helpful. But this isn’t his first go round with this dealer either. If they can’t fix it this time around, they better either give him a full refund, or a brand new saw that actually runs.

1122 and 1128 series mainly. Ms261 is the only other saw I have enough trigger time to evaluate.

261 is really not the same comparison because of the stratos. Ive cut out the intake cage if there is spitback it can blend with the strato feed.

Okay now, the Stihl regional rep sent me an email yesterday evening stating that he had been in contact with the dealer working on my 661 and that the mechanic was testing the repair as the rep was writing the email. He, the rep, said would contact again after the test, I assume. He was short on details of what had been done to the saw this time.

Soooo... after 6 weeks in the shop, this trip, maybe I'll have a saw later today. The down side is I probably won't be able to run the saw until maybe Sunday.

Like the somg says: "What a long strange trip it's been!"

I still would have pressed the rep for a new saw. Questioning what kind oF repair could possibly take 6 weeks since a saw can be built from a pile of parts in just a few hours. And if there that backed up what happens if the saw breaks again and you need it.

Hope it's fixed and fixed for good this time for you!!
