Your right, it looks like the ash pan cover has moved too the right a few times during the winter and there may be some previous drips that were covered by dust. Facing the stove front, all this is happening on the left side in the rear. Since the clearance is minimal back there I can't see exactly where it's coming from.

Well, if you want to take a closer look and do not have much room, I think I know where you might be able to buy a very nice bore scope at a decent price. Only used once to look up the backside of a woodstove......

Whalen here, just cleaned up stove for the spring. I found lots of hardened creosote in the ash pan box, nothing I am worried about, but it does form in there. One issue I am having I could sure use some input on is persistent dirty glass on the left side of my glass. No matter what type of wood I get a dirty left hand lower corner glass. I am trying to understand the air wash, I saw the small holes under the andirons that link to the "EPA" hole under the door gasket in front. But I do not understand where exactly the upper air wash comes from, all I know is that the left side seems not to be strong, or working at all.

The ash pan is open to the firebox through the grate; it is quite common to get some creosote in the ash pan, on the ash pan door, etc. But the ash pan and firebox are not connected to the secondary air supply in any low area of the stove and so creosote should not normally get into the draft area.

Quite a few of us have found the stove drafts more strongly on the right side than the left (the right being the door hinge side) so your darkening glass on the left is understandable. Basically, the glass getting dirty is a symptom of the stove running on the cool side and is pretty common in the warmer part of wood burning season. When it is very cold out and the stove is pushed somewhat harder, the glass becomes quite 'self cleaning' all the way to the corners, at least mine does. In the fall and spring, the door glass on my stove ranges anywhere between dark and sooty to black and the only way I have found to fix it is to scrape the gunk off with a razor blade. And this in not the I.S. or any Woodstock product, it is any air- tight woodstove that is burned very low and slow.

I have not. I'm a bit pressed for time right now. I'll email WS and send them my pic and a description so it is on record.
I haven't burned in over a week so I'm not worried about the stove itself right now.

Haven't burned in over a week! Lucky, lucky. More snow here, and we've had several cold nights (low teens) this week.

I have some news from Lorin @ WS regarding this issue. I'm going to post this on the conversation thread we have going in order to keep the peace for the time being.
