Just hoping I get decent draft. I can close the room off from the rest of the house. Yeah it's gonna stink.

Mine wasn't too bad either. A little irritating, but only just a little.

Lit a piece of paper in there. smoke went up and out. It's 59 degrees right now and I haven't added the 2 foot of chimney yet so I'm at 13. There is however 5 foot of double wall in the house now. Little more expensive but worth it in the long run I think.

Got some kindling and some small pieces of 2 by 4 going right now.

I've got double wall pipe so how do I know when to turn the air down? They say when the single wall pipe says 250 but I've got double wall

Babaganoosh Don't worry with that small of a load you probably won't even get to 500 inside.. keep air open and don't engage the cat you will be fine!

    Tip:
Don't open the air intake all the way in less than half a second when the box is black from running on the cat. I had a backdraft movie type of event! I saw the little puff of smoke come out from under the hood! It was neat.

That was a few very small splits too. Going to pick up a probe thermometer today and try to get the cat to light off with a bigger load.

I know cats working when temperature on chimney starts to drop... then I have only had 6 fires you need a real load to engage cat..

Oh man I'm lost. You aren't really supposed to burn without the cat engaged though right? Aside from getting the stove to temp that is.

Won't hurt anything. Just won't be as efficient. Lots of heat will be lost up the stack
