    Running the stove "hard" today.

IR gun says I'm running around 600F at the front of the stove (cat screw area).

    STT reading just over 400F.

House is 80F.. -4F outside with silly wind.
    :picard:

    Love this stove.
    :fire:

Edit.. Thx for the song link.. haven't heard that one in a while

Woodstock got back to me about cat probe, talked to a nice lady, 1800 even 2000 on cat is no big deal.
Same advice several here have stated.
I do remember some people posting that they did not like those high temps on cat but as stated here flue and STT are the true important things to keep track of.

This echos the same info I've been given from emailing them. Last week when the single digits hit and I needed to get the stove in high gear, I couldn't get the stove top over 500 without the cat probe going off the scale. This concerned me because the manual states a high range for the cat. What I've been told at this point is to not worry too much about the cat probe readings.

I've had my IS since 2015 and 400 to 500 stt are easy and normal. I used to run a cat probe thermometer but don't any longer, as I can run the stove off of firebox activity now. When I had the probe 1600 degrees were a regular temp and had it up to 1800 numerous times. It's a great heater and once you get the routine down on how to run it, the stove is cake to run. It takes a lot to over fire the stove. I've had it up to 650 and that was because I had my head upmy a$$and wasn't paying attention to it and let it runaway... No damage and the stove was fine.

Poking around the net about cat temps is interesting, guidlines seem to vary between manufacturers. Some people have issues with this or that making me wonder about their wood moisture content.

I think most wood burning problems come down to too much moisture.. I mean fire does not qualify as a new technology

I hope I'm not about to wear out my welcome b/c I have the smaller woodstock stove and I don't have the same model you guys do but I get my stove up to the 700F range at times. How often? I don't know. It seems to like to spike up to that temperature and hang out there for a good while before taking a stroll back down. I'm on year 4 with this stove and it has always been that way. I use the thermometer that came with the stove and have it right over the catalyst. I use an IR gun the last 2 years now to know I'm safe to throw the cat on.
