ID Please

I cut down this tree today and I have no idea what it is. It doesn't seem to be very dense.

 

Looks like some sort of pine to me. Did it split straight or stringy? Any foliage?

 

No foliage, not pine. Splitted straight.

 

It's btu's jack. I see pine bark covered in snow.

 

The tree seemed alive, wouldn't there been pine needles on it?

 

Not necessarily. Slim and I scrounged some pine a couple weeks ago. No needles. Ours was real knotty but looks like you got some good straight grained pieces. Any more pics? End grain?

 

Wide growth rings, looks like a fast growing species.
One of the poplars maybe.

Well if it doesn't rot in twenty years I'll know its larch.

 

I think it is Red maple - lots of Red maples around here have bark similar to your tree. The growth rings are wide, but Red Maple can grow pretty fast in good conditions.

 

I was leaning towards Hackmattack/Tamarack.
If the limbs/crown shape looked like a pine without needles that's what it is
