Here's another way to look at it. If YOU are happy with the 290 that's what matters. I would love to have a pro saw but just keep plugoing away with what I got. Will I have one one day. Yes but until than I'll use what I have and make the best of it.

You're right. We got a little off the rails...which is weird because that rarely happens around here ;)

I don't know about you, but I spend the majority of my time felling and bucking compared to limbing...so that's where the biggest opportunity lies to save time and make the job easier...so a feller/bucker would be first on my list. Depending on the size of wood you cut, a pro 60CC or 70CC saw will be quite capable for this and you could "get by" with it for limbing until you are ready to get a smaller saw.

The 310 was a favorite of mine to sell because it was just enough of a power upgrade to run 20" 3/8" where the 290 was only happy with .325" on a 20" bar. And the 310 kept things under $500 for the price conscientious. Probably the hardest to find of the 1127 series saws now. Kinda the unloved middle child and there was no prior "0xx" series saw to it like there was with the 290 (029, 029S) or 390 (039).

I think mine was under $400. I'll have to look at the receipt again.

Gasifier - has your 290 had muffler surgery yet? If not, that might give you the extra umph you're wanting...for now.

You got a helluva deal if it was. MSRP on the 290 20" was $399 for the longest time, went up towards the end of the run. The 310 was usually another $50.

Might open up some other possibilities for you if you do...small saw first might be more appealing.

How are the Jonsered saws? If you are going to do some serious cutting.

That 2166 is the same thing as the Husqvarna 365XT that FreakingStang recommended and it certainly would run a 24" bar with ease for you. The 2240 I think is the equivalent of the Husqvarna 440.

A lot of people hate on the farm boss but that saw has cut lots of cords. If I was in your position I would buy a nice smaller saw and upgrade the farmboss one day when you find a larger saw you can't pass up. I came close to ordering the makita 6421 with the 79cc kit from baileys the other day. Still might.
