How much difference would/could there be in my current MS290 Farm Boss and a MS 362C? I see there is only a 2.5cc difference. The 362 is about the same weight, slightly lighter. But I do see that the "engine power" is broke down like this.

    MS290 - 2.8kw(3.8bhp)

    MS362 - 3.5kw(4.69bhp)

That's a difference you can feel. Whacha thinking Gas? Replace the 290 or are you still after a smaller saw?

Having a lot of time with both I can assure you there is a difference, and the difference is big. If you buy a 362 you'll never pick up the 290 again, so plan on selling it if you go this route.

I'd liken it to the difference in a half ton pickup with a V6 and V8.

The 290 is the V6 reliable workhorse...gets the job done...may take a little longer and you have to push it a little harder....sometimes it feels like it takes can't get out of its own way.

The 362 is the V8...smooth operator (anti-vibe)...put your foot down and it goes ...can pull a trailer respectably. Have to push it on occasion, but doesn't feel overworked.

If you want diesel truck power you need a 70CC+ saw.

A husky 555 is around $500 for a all orange 562. That would be a step up in comfort and power from the 290. It would run a 24" bar if needed from time to time and plenty happy with a 20".

I thought about the 555 but didn't want to add another saw into the fray! :wacky:

For what it's worth, I think you were on the right track with the two saw plan. Cause one jack of all trades certainly is the master of none and one stuck saw all by itself ain't gonna cut itself outta a tree.

I am thinking of trading in my 009 and my 290 on a new pro saw. But I am use to having another saw on the truck in case some "non-pro" guy gets his bar stuck.

A saw that could handle a 24" bar would be great. But run a 18 or 20 on it most of the time. I have considered what some said about the reach though. And not bending over so much. I like the idea being able to still stand upright!

I have not stuck my saw in a long while. Getting better at that. But it would be handy to have a power saw for fellin and buckin, and then a little lightweight screamer for limbin! Okay boys. Now you have to find me both! Ba ha ha ha ha. On a total budget of $500 and trading my two saws in on them! :lol:Let the games begin!

Yeah, I'm not sure how tall you are but my 550xp wears a 18". Not because I need a 18" bar on it but I don't like bending over.

Keep the 009 for now, as it has limited resale value. Trade the 290 in on the 545 and be ready to pick up a 70 cc when your next big 'un comes up. (or down.... :saw:)

Gasifier you got yourself into a heck of a predicament now. If you are worried about a pinched saw do what I used to do before I had 2 saws. Get an extra bar and chain can be a pain to get the head off but you gotta do what you gotta do. MasterMech, lukem, and Freakingstang you guys are right in yes he isn't afraid to spend the money on quality. I thought he was more or less looking for a nice smaller saw his wife could get him within a budget.
