    Really enjoyed reading everyone's comments... and I will add a few more. :)

    - Both my parents had iceboxes when their parents could afford them growing up (that's living in tall cotton!).

    - When I went on a fishing trip in northern Quebec 40 plus years ago, they still cut ice and used sawdust for summer use. Cool to see first hand.

    They still cut ice in this area. Friend of mine and his son snowmobiled about 60 miles back into their fish camp in western Quebec last week end. Group that fishes out of that camp cut 65 blocks on the lake and filled their ice house for the upcoming season. They were saying the ice was about 45" on the lake they were on. I remember using it in the old ice fridges here every summer when we came up to fish and stayed in the old cottages. That was before they had electricity in those parts.
