On Monday I checked out a property that I can cut all I want on. It’s a ranch homestead with multiple shelter belts. Lots of dead and down, and standing dead stuff. Elm mostly, seen a few ash, and won’t bother with any of the cottonwood unless it’s in the way. Kinda wet meadow ground, lots of water standing around now so probably won’t work it much till later this summer or early fall if it dries up some. So my quandary is that it’s tight quarters (trees are very close together, plus fences) 30 miles away (one way), so I need to get a decent load when I go. But no way to get a pickup & pickup box trailer close to the trees. Thinking I’ll probably take my track skid steer and grapple to clean up the down and rotten stuff and make some trails that I can get a 4wheeler and trailer though. I’ve been wanting a trailer for my 4wheeler anyway but never had a justified need for one. I know that I could probably use the skid steer to pack the wood out, but it tends to tear up soft ground. Plus I really want a trailer. So show me some pictures of what you have for ATV trailers & what you like or dislike about it. Help me spend my money wisely
Brother and made this one. 80 in. long and 50 in wide. Works well with UTV or ATV. Hauls quite a load if you choose. In the process of building another at the moment (I'm isolating for 14 days at the request of my employer). Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
Bed is 50 inches wide. The axle is repurposed from a Dodge Caravan so it is a bit wider wheel base than the Ranger and quite wider than the 4 wheeler. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
We have one of these for behind the quad.. Ohio Steel 10 cu ft. 600 lb. Capacity Poly Swivel Cart-3040P-SD - The Home Depot A good cart, but does lack in capacity.
I have used my Polar Mesh 1400 trailer behind the ATV for over a year now. Thing has proven its worth time and time again. 1400 lb rating but I think it could handle more. Could definitely hold more if I build up higher sides. Fairly good capacity otherwise. It tips up and dumps though that’s not the greatest feature since the trailer sits so low. Wide wheel base that’s just slightly wider than the ATV. I cut on our property that’s very hilly and rocky and has narrow trails. Trailer has been great. Glides over anything in its path. It’s light enough that the ATV has no problem with it when climbing the steep sections of the hill but it’s rugged and well built. The company that makes them is top notch, too. The welds that attach the trailer arm to the axle housing broke on me recently. I do put the trailer through some rigorous work so it was likely my fault. But the company sent me replacement parts at no cost to me, no questions asked and had them at my doorstep three days later. With an apology to boot.
I have a little 15 cu ft trailer but I consider that a toy. I use this for moving wood. While it’s not a wagon it sounds like it would be useful in your situation. Pulls the logs out of some tight situations. I personally leave the dead tops and scraps behind and just take the good stuff. With a little thought into the process you can winch up and move multiple pieces at once. Just a thought.
Somewhere on here TurboDiesel has a build thread on a walking beam axle atv trailer that's really slick. Calling Tim.
No more Husky's (unless its a good deal) After all if its a good deal its spending your money wisely, isnt it?
Woodsman and I have close to the same trailer. What really makes this thing nice is the wide tires so you can go through mud and snow nicely. They do make a tandem axle but I don't think they would be necessary for most jobs. Another way to do things and do them with a lot less money outlay is to build a dray. The nice thing is you can build it to any size you want and they work nicely for hauling out logs. The one pictured I built for $10. It is small but that is all I needed at the time and it works great.
A couple pics of the new build in process. Using some pipe (instead of 2x6's) we had left over from building hog gates from yrs back. We will leave the gaps in between pipes open for bark to fall thru and then we have a Ford Ranger bed liner that we customized if we are using the trailer for grain (cattle feed), etc. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
I use this one behind my ATV, It fits a few rounds in it. 10 cubic feet agri-fab Best $50 used cart I've found. It's got decently wide tires If I can get it back into where I need to use it, I'll try the 4x8 trailer behind the ATV.
Look at the Woodland Mills trailers. They are expensive but appear to be worth it. If I was in the market for one, those would be at the top of my list.
