Beautiful stacks papadave. I hate this deal has caused you extra work but I suspect this was a one-time freak occurence as has been said by some teenagers enjoying their first beer. Doesn't make it right, but I suspect your worries should subside. And my three dogs sure let the alarm sound too, I've got solar motion lights coming on Friday for the woodshed btw
So, as mentioned, I had to wait for wife to get home before I could get back outside. Finally did, and got the last of the Oak from this past spring stacked up. Too tired to take pics, so: the dog ate the phone, the sun's almost down, the phone battery died (never happens), I have a hangnail.....pick your excuse. I'll take a pic tomorrow. I'll be out splitting the Maple then. I wonder how much of that I'll get done before I need a siesta? At least I won't have to deal with any PI.
Thanks. I plan to let the field grow in like it was before I started putting firewood back there. Maybe I'll stack back there again at some point. Some of he Pine and Poplar posts/sleepers that are back there will be used up front in the same way, but some will become firewood. Should be close to 1/3 cord or so.
As promised, I took a couple pics today. Got almost all the rest of the Maple done, and pulled a few of the posts from out back. Seems like most are questionable even for firewood. No matter. Kinda hard to see the stack back by the trailer, but that's the Oak I did yesterday. Might do one more mowing, then take the deck off, and consider putting the plow on soon. The last little bit of Maple. Too tired.
Ok, another nice cool, partly sunny day to work outside. I finished up the Maple, then set up the post and sleepers for another stack of Oak that was on the trailer. Almost couldn't finish that, but got it done. Now, either onto the Ash, or some more Oak, or get back in the woods for some more Red Maple. That partial stack is now full.....thought I got a pic when I was done...hmmm.
Good temp here ,was cloudy all day. Your goin at it man ,how much have ya moved n stacked ? I got the cord of ash all stacked
About 4 cords so far is all I've managed. I still have close to 2/3 cord of Ash to put somewhere, plus almost 1/3 cord of Oak. Now, to find someplace to put the '17-'18 wood.....when I get it.
Things sometimes take a while for me to figure out, but the light finally came on today. The AHA moment, as they say. Just wandering around outside, looking around the yard while the dog sniffed his big old heart out....it came to me. Since my SisIL has about an acre or so for a "back yard", which is what leads to the cutting floor, I can stack over there. If I take the splitter over, I can just pull rounds outta the woods and dump to be split, then stack. This is all dependent on whether she'll have a problem with it or not. She needs firewood too, so we could just cut stuff to fit her stove and get things going for her too. A ton of Red Maple will work real well to start, then we'll go after some more dead Oak. Plan may change, but that's what I've got for now. If this pans out, there will be pics....of course.
Well, although I'm not done with this approach, she already has some thoughts about where to stack the wood. Right where she wants to put her greenhouse. Huh? I mentioned that, and she said "The greenhouse won't take up all that room". So I said, "Yeah, but the amount of firewood you need sure will". So she said "Oh". Long term thinking sometimes eludes her. She's seen my firewood stacks. I don't get it. I may head over there tomorrow or Thursday.
Forgot to take that pic, huh Dave? Then I spy a mug on the trailer and ponder what sorta sauce might be contained therein.... On a serious note... What holds up your posts where they intersect the sleepers, or do you "plant" 'em?
Gotcha. I thought it was too simple to be easy. In my "young fella" days, I'd have tossed post hole diggers around like chop sticks- not so much anymore!
In our sand, it takes me about 5 minutes to dig the hole, unless I run into a root or 2. Top few inches is a soil/sand mix, then we hit sand for a while. We did almost 4' holes for the pole barn posts, and still hit mostly sand. I didn't do those by hand.Mr. Bobcat helped. No, not Goldthwaite.
