The first thing that popped into my weak brain is that cottonwood was too wet to split! Then reading further, I see that was the real problem. Cottonwood just is not as hard and tight as most good firewood so one needs to let it dry some before splitting. But at least he had the machine set up right!

Good luck on fixing it Steve.

Ok, so talking about my splitter, I want to buy some new tires for it. They are the small typical tires and rims, but there is one of them that just will not hold air. So I want to get some of those foam-filled tires, so I dont have to worry about flats.
Does anyone know of a website or store, I can acquire a couple??

Take em to the local tire place (not sears/Walmart, a real tire shop) and have them foam fill them...or just put a tube in...

Or fill them with green slime (just in time for Halloween). It can be had at any auto parts store or at Harbor Fright! They might even have the tires.

Tire shops love when you take a tire in that is loaded with slime....Ask me how I know.

We used to get 'em all the time at the bike shop, (ATV) tires...no big deal as long as you make the shop aware...nothing like breaking the bead and you don't know its loaded...

Guilty. Not a tire shop, but the equipment rental at my work. Had a previous flat on a front tire of the Kubota tractor and used slime in a pinch. Managed to roll it off the bead while bushogging later and could not get the bead to set so I brought it into work. I appologized ahead of time.

When I was younger we paid money to get some pink stuff put into our quad tires. Unsure what it was but had a tendancy to harden and throw balance off. It was meant to go into tires that have not yet had any problem/leaks and would seal a puncture in real time right as it happened. Trick is, you never really know if it works or not until you dismount the tire because you'd have had no idea you even had a puncture. Theory is sound, in practice was questionable.

When I bought the UTV, the previous owner told me the tires were Slimed....I forgot, that won't happen.

Saw a slimed tire on a atv wheel that had popped when someone tried the ether trick. Looked like it was entertaining.

I would not put slime in a car or ATV tire but a low speed utility tire, wheel barrow tire or splitter tire seems a good fit to me.

Mine is a bit less rugged but still gets the job done and is very portable. It's a game changer![IMG]
