Fingers crossed, I don't think anybody has the sickness as bad as I do around these parts. If the wood is not in the road or 2 foot off the road or lighter limb wood there is little interest. I don't think I have ever worked this hard for any wood. Anything less than oak or hickory I would be out. I did drop the tailgate and load directly into the truck. Makes a whole lot more sense with the larger rounds.
One more trip and ill have it. Even if somebody sees this tree I can't fathom anybody putting the effort in. Mystree oak.
Ill be taking all of it next time. I haven't seen a free wood ad in months and last year was a meager year for yard scrounges.
Drove through this area that had a controlled burn. Area looks good, less broads and other junk. Somebody hit the pay dirt cut and load into the truck. Last of the hickory, I sat and waited on this and nobody else was interested. Bagged up a full garbage bag of noodles.
This score will really payback when it's time to burn it. I'd love to get more hickory. In my eye it only has one negative, the powder from the beetles.
What about ash volume? My friend who i sell BL, hickory and oak says he loves the heat but it makes a lot of ash. He doesnt mix.
I didn't experience high ash production similar to say walnut. Non issue for me. Maybe that could be regional specific?
I have my work cut out for me splitting. I have a vacation planned out so I am going to wait until i get back to split and stack. This would have not been worth it if this weren't hickory. Lots of popple or aspen sits by the road and nobody wants it. I'd say there is at least 2 cords, there's some oak and a little bit of elm in the pile.
