Is this tree uphill or downhill from the truck? One pic looks one way, the other pic the other way...
The hickory tree is downhill and 40 yards from the truck. Where I am cutting the wood next to the truck is in a steep ditch. Its all Appalachian optical illusions. I need to buy some of those log carrying hooks you have. I have one of these but I need two for proper balance.
I actually started using a pair of pickaroons more often...saves bending over and for bigger rounds it allows dragging the log instead of carrying all the weight. I have 2 of these. https://www.menards.com/main/outdoo...9647-4332-962f-3535c878046a&ipos=12&exp=false
brenndatomu I remembered you mentioning the pickaroon drag in another thread. My weekend hickory cut I thought I would try that before using the wheelbarrow. No luck, hickory was hard enough the point would not dig in deep enough to drag.
Yeah I guess the hardest wood I've done it on so far is red oak...RO, ash, maple, and some boxelder is mainly what I've gotten lately...did get just a little bit of locust, but can't remember if I tried to pick it or not...
Back at it and the tree is untouched. A major state route is being worked on and the detour is within view. County and state plow trucks even a funeral procession passed. Getting to cutting. Working over the top. No secret anymore, path in the snow. Should be safe, 26 outside and not a low effort score. Started to warm up a bit and the ground got greasy. I somehow approximated the right amount to equal a thrown in truck load. Too much effort to stack. Better view of how much lower the wood is than the truck. All loaded up getting out for now, home for lunch and Ibproufen. Should be able to make it back this weekend. Fingers crossed its still there. Should be 2 or 3 more loads.
I have to ask, not give a hard time but just ask. It appears you carry the logs out almost to the truck and then pile them up to then pick them back up and put in the truck?
