I have never owned a trailer. Should I?

My last wheelbarrow almost cost $150. Another great reason to buy it!! :dex:

My Pa trailer registration is 13$. It's very nice to have but always in the way. We have two driveways with the lower one leading to our garage. It makes sense to keep it there because it's flat but I have to hook it to move it at least once per week. That said, I wouldn't be without it.

Having a trailer is nice, but it should be something that can haul more than a yard tractor if you want to load firewood on it.

Find something with 15 or 16" wheels.

1000lbs is maybe 1/4 cord. Maybe your uses are different than mine, but if I'm out cutting wood I'm loading the truck/trailer with several cords to consider it a worthwhile day.

That's what's cool about FHC. We have all kinds of hoarders from commercial firewood cutters all the way down to the station wagon scroungers. To each his own and those little loads add up quicker than you'd think!

But the guy lives in the city and might be scrounging a mile from the house And has a car he can't haul two cords if he wanted too. I bet he do sent have much storage area either.

My ranger only holds a 1/3 cord and I have cut many a time just filling it. Its perfect for cutting when you get off work.

I've whacked a mole but I've never scrounged one. Doesn't sound like a decent thing to do.

I'm going to go have a couple drinks and come back later to see if this makes more sense then.

I'd grab that trailer for that price if it was around here.

I used to have a small trailer. I sold it because I didn't use it much. One of the dumber things I ever did as I could have used it at least a couple times a year since I sold it. I've been keeping my eyes open on CL but once something is listed, it's usually gone right away unless it's a screaming POS.

@Jon1270 If it were me I would grab that trailer in a heartbeat! Swap the axle and springs to a GM 10 bolt, Ford 9", or whatever I could get my grubby paws on depending on width yada yada. I do have the storage on my little 1/8 acre & vehicle/s with a higher tow rating etc.

Do you know the height difference from the trailer tongue while level... To your current vehicles hitch height? I'm thinking that might be more than your standard height?

I too thought the trailer looked tall.

Well, there are 6 bricks under the tounge in the picture. If those bricks match the ones my house is built from then the stack is a little less than 14" high, which is pretty close to where my car's hitch is. That's all I've got to go on. Haven't heard back from the seller, but I'm not worried yet.

The bright side of its having a low weight capacity might be that it's rather light itself... might be easier to stand up out of the way.

Here's another on my local CL, heavier-duty by the looks of it but they want $400...

Pics can be deceiving. 14 inches seems about right for your application now. Just measured my 2wd b3000 and it measured almost the same height. The other trucks and jeep measure 19 inches to 2 1/2 feet. My trailer read 19 or so on the tape and prolly around 16 with a heavy load (6000lbs+)

I like the looks of the second one more but 400 is too much imo. I had a similar trailer but it was a bit heavier duty 5 x 8 and was rated for 3k. It took a few weeks to sell at 400 and I only got a couple of calls on it. Try to find something with a 2k gross weight to match your car. I have a pickup and still use my trailer a lot. Real heavy? Goes in trailer. Makes a mess? In the trailer. I can put 1500lbs or so in my pickup. I can put 7000 in my trailer comfortably. If you get a 2k trailer it will weigh 350 ish so that leaves you 1650lbs without overloading it. Put 1600lbs in the back of your car and see how happy it is.

The second looks like it might of just got a quick rattle can coat of paint for sale. Looks like paint overspray all over the grass.

Or maybe its just shade the trailer creates???

Looking at the first trailer there doesn't appear to be much clearance from the tires to the trailer deck. Might not be the stock wheel/tires.
If it's an overhung axle that could be flipped to underhung, it'd be an easy swap
I'd imagine a 1k load would have the treads almost rubbing and any bumps along the way.

It's an ideal trailer for someone with a consistent 6-800lb quad or lawn tractor, the variation of firewood loads - I'm thinking not so much but better than loading a station wagon.

    I noticed that too Basod.

If it is like the HF trailer I think those have the 4.80x8" wheels on them..maybe an option to a skinny 13" tire?

Still waiting to hear back from the first guy. Not sure that selling it is his highest priority.

Jon it is your decision and you are the one who has to live with your decision. We can give you some things to look for and things you will have to look out for but we are not there so cannot say for sure that it is something you should do or not.

I for one noticed a couple things:
    1) if you look closely at the first picture you posted it appears that the frame/box of the trailer appears to be bent down an inch or so at the left rear corner, indicating to me that the frame or box or both have been tweaked/sprung because of who knows what, over loading perhaps
    2) the trailer has pretty shallow sides and no visable tie down points welded to the box or frame, indicating to me that hauling any wheeled implement or loads that are above the trailer sides cannot easilly be tied down and would be a dangerous affair on public roads, the second picture clearly shows no tie down points on the interior of the trailer either. This may not be a big deal as long as you avoid loading the thing past the top of the box.

However if the trailer is 4'x6'x15" then the volume of the trailer loaded to be even with the top of the sides is 30 cubic feet a full cord is 128 cubic feet so the trailer will hold less than 25% of a full cord. A little more than your car but not much.

I have dealt with a few sellers like that. Never get back to you...wont get back to you, won't give a price...or never get back to you after you agree to buy it??
