As some of you might remember, I had to have elbow surgery and I am still recovering and have weight restrictions for my left arm. A good friend of mine offered some help quartering some of the big pieces of Ash. He came over on a Friday and worked several hours. One of my boys was home on Saturday so we started around 0900 and stopped around 1530. That includes the sheared bolt on the splitter ram and a fast lunch while we picked up a new bolt. This was his first time running the splitter and he did great. There are two decent piles of Ash that I can load up later. We are at the point that I don’t mess with wood that is a pain to split or is so gnarled that it won’t stack well. I have two smaller piles of wood that I will drop off to the OWB farmer down the road.
Glad you are healing up there...don't over do things. Nice pile of split Ash there. Good to see your son pitching in.
Good call on ditching the nasty stuff. A good friend of mine runs an owb & I dump all sorts of stuff for him. Not worth the hassle if you've got a good supply. Nice looking work there!
Oh yeah, my OWB will consume the ugly nasty stuff just fine. Not being OCD challenged, good splits and uglies end up in a haphazard pile at the lean to by the boiler anyway.
Yeah I would be just leaving the odd shape stuff for the pit. No sense in wasting it so long as I get it out and burn it hot. Thats my version of an OWB..
The Fiskars and the pulp hook have been fantastic. Cabin fever, doctors orders and a wife who is a nurse can make a man go stir crazy. I have been out stacking wood and thankfully got this pile of wood finished with major help. It wasn’t so much about getting the wood split as it was about my mental outlook. Last weekend my dad and I stacked a pile of Oak. Whenever I’m out working I wear a jacket or a sweatshirt with pockets and keep my left hand immobilized
That's a very true statement there. Nothing's worse for a person's mental state than the feeling of being 'helpless' or incapable. You'll heal and be back to hoarding. Do what you can, when you can.
Glad you are on the mend. I can relate to going mad not being able to work on your wood. I had a section of my bowel removed Jan 2017. I also had a large stack of logs that needed worked. I would look out the window each day at the stack and occasionally sneak out to work it. As soon as the saw started, my wife would run out and give me h**l. End of wood processing for the day. I was feeling pretty good, when my daughter and granddaughter came by and asked if my wife wanted to go shopping with them? Alright. The healing witches are gone. Ran to the shop. I hadn't even got the saw to the log stack before 2 of my grandsons showed up. All they would let me do was drive the skid steer. I think I was set up, but we did get a lot wood CSS. Take it easy and let family and friends help you out.
OhioStihl it certainly be a test when we can't get out to do things like we should or need to. But it is also a blessing when friends chip in to help. This happened here recently and we'll never forget those friends who chipped in to help us through this thing. A few of them even stopped in one day to surprise us and simply went to work: (They like to eat too!)

Thanks for all the support and moral boosting. I am doing well and definitely healing up. I couldn’t of got any wood in without the help. My other son loaded the trailer for me this morning. There was more there than I thought so the truck bed was loaded up too. After I dumped the wood from the trailer I unhooked and unloaded the truck bed. My right arm will be nicely developed.
