I got a poulan pro 18 inch gas chain saw

    You need to remove the muffler to pull the cat but you will quickly destroy it , running with no muffler. Be kind of hard to tune it. Plus if it were to last more than a bit if you could tune it without a muffler. It would get all kinds of dirt and crud in it when not using it that would kill it.

    I have replaced cat mufflers with non cat models also and modded those mufflers:dremel:. Quite a bit of difference!!! More power :saw:

    I've just gone to the junk pile and found one. I also cut open a couple and removed the cat and welded it shut.

    I have a poulan 5020av. Definetly runs better on the ethanol free "canned gas " that you buy at lowes etc. Kinda pricey but it works.

    My new 5020 test saw needed tuned out of the box. L and I. Ran fine on pump gas afterwords and easiest starting saw I have had I believe.

    IMO you need to fine tune saws. Dont live with the out of the box set ups.

    The smaller cc saws I seen come in are to lean on the H. Just asking for it IMO.
