I am with you. When I limb I like them cut close so nothing at all is sticking out. When a stub is sticking out it is just another place to hit the shin.

Thats lots of wood wildwest ! I agree those knubs sticking out are a pain, I like to cut them as flush as possible as well. If not they dont stack nice and they dont fit in the stove very nice either. When you guys get around to it show us some processing pics. Will you stack it single row? Is that the same lake as the cool one in the amateur photographer thread? Hopefully there is some good fishin in there.

Ha! Good memory, yes, same lake and it is pretty good for fishing:) It doesn't seem like that much wood to me compared to my old house and the first 2 winters here in this house, but we don't burn like we used to, so I guess it is alot. I am guessing some rounds will be stacked single, but our splits are usually piles, not stacks:rofl: . Old house was oval driveway, different stacks of either logs, rounds, or splits in different stages of drying, he doesn't split til the rounds are tinder dry, easy for me to tell which pile to pull from, though he usually brought in a couple days worth at a time and put by the stove. Thinking of that pic I posted and talking about my previous home, I think we left more dry wood with the sale of the house than I realized :picard:

I never had to worry about fitting in the stove before now, pre epa stoves with giant fireboxes, should be interesting:sherlock:

Also, he broke the handle on his splitting maul winter before last, none of the handle replacements in town would fit, so I bought him a whole new maul instead, only ones available were the ones with a rubberized coating and grippers, when he swings his top hand slides down the handle, the broken wood handle was actually smooth and shiny from so much use. He said the rubberized one was ok but I think I need to revisit a new wooden handle for his old maul.

I know!! I was shocked when I joined here. Seems getting wood out east is easier, but seasoning is an ordeal. Here its ordeal to get the wood, but seasoning is easier. Then again, only choice is pine here vs hardwood out east. I think Dennis almost fainted reading some of the stuff I wrote when I joined

Trust me I've tried! I even toyed with getting a cheap electric one just give him a taste because I really think he would like it. Kinda like the generator I bought, he was not impressed with the wattage, but now uses it alot and takes it everywhere with him. :sherlock:

There's your answer. You just did it, weathered the comments, and now he uses it (the genny).....
The Super Splitter or the DR Rapid Fire are lightning fast, and he can still get the satisfaction of manhandling the rounds up to the table....

Im all for the splitter as well and purchased one 4 years ago, my back couldnt handle splitting that much wood by hand anymore. I hear you on the budget though. Id like a gas powered splitter, a new down rigger, fish finder, larger boat, bigger chainsaw, if only money was more readily available....

Go for it get him in an Electric, you've been around here long enough to know those Splitters do a pretty darn good job for what they are, better than swinging a maul.IMO
Only thing is, it is best to make a stand for them to get them up higher to save your back, nothing fancy he can build it out of scrap wood

Thanks!! I will surf some more next week, I don't want to let him on that I am considering it again, he still wants to do everything ourselves like we used to, you know?.

For whatever reason when I googled Eric VW ideas, the ones that came up were $1200 and $2300, but googled your link and many more affordable options showed up:)...
