    The lift kit makes the wheels look smaller that is why I thought you changed them

    Well I gave up on the HF splitter. Stopped at TSC today and just about purchased a county line 22 ton. On my way home stopped at a good friends shop and got to talking with him about an old splitter he had laying around. Similar to when northern tool first built there splitters. He said it should get atleast a new motor and pump. Started tearing it down tonight. Going with a Honda gx200 motor and a haldex 16 gpm pump. Going to raise it up to a good working height, extend the tongue with new 2" coupler and build a table over the tongue to catch and hold split pieces. Going to be one nice splitter when we are done.

    Of course after we start this project a used power horse 2 way splitter pops up on the local CL but I feel this will be a better splitter.

    That thing looks pretty heavy duty. It has a nice axle under it too.

    It's a long story but ill make it short. My friend who owns it has a farm with a nice big shop. A few years ago I met him and got to know him pretty well. Did some plumbing for him in his new shop. Hooked up his ODB, in floor heat, and heater in the old shop. A another friend and I do most of the cutting for the ODB so we get free use of pretty much anything on the farm. Shop with hoist tire machine skid steer chain grinder and now a splitter.

    So was it a freebie yes and no. We will get free use of it anytime we want and it will get stored on the farm for free.

    Got the splitter raised up today. The top of the beam sits at 32" off the ground. Mounted the new pump with new couplings and pump bracket to a new Honda gx200 motor as well. Now I just need a new 1" suction/discharge hose as the old pump was only 3/4".

    Just met with a friend who will fab up a table on the end of the splitter that wil be mounted to the tongue. Going to be about 24" wide with about a 4" bend off each end. Was also thinking about extending the table back on each side about 12" which it would start at the front edge of the wedge. More pictures to follow.

    Well I grabbed a filter and hose this morning and got everything done up and started the splitter and cycled it a few times. The hose is not heavy duty enough for the 16gpm pump so I need to drain the fluid and find a better hose to supply the pump.

    I forgot to snap some pictures but I have to stop back out to the shop later and will get some then.

    Sorry guys every time I've been at the shop I forget to snap some pictures. I did get a new hose for the supply to the pump and did split a couple rounds of wood with it. She runs great and splits nicely. I have to get the tongue extended and get a jack put on it the the table will be built. Hopefully next week I'll have more time to get back at it.

    We finally extended the tongue today and added a jack that will be protected from damage during splitting. Now we are ready to build the log catcher/table. Here is a picture of the hitch side of things from this morning. image.jpeg

    We just ran some elm through it this afternoon and if it's not almost dead level or pitched back toward the suction opening its starves for fluid. Minor details for now. Still have to add safety chains.

    Is the fluid level in the reservoir dropping rapidly when the cylinder is cycling?

    ODB= old dirty bastard?

    Did you mean OWB?

    That's going to be a nice heavy duty splitter when it's done. A sorting table and waist height working area will keep your back happy.
