I was at the local Stihl dealer today and i saw this saw on the shelf. When i first saw (no pun intended) your post i said "that dude has some big hands" but i was wrong. The saw is like holding a football. Ive been considering a new Stihl 193, but after picking up the Echo i might convert. The price was comparable too! I have a Husky 334T which i dont use a lot, but need a reliable handheld saw. Have you used it yet?

Little late to the party here! Don’t know how I missed this thread, but time to bring it back.
I got my 2511 around the same time Scotty Overkill did and I never had the pleasure to cut with it in stock form! Somehow it came home landed on the bench and the muffler fell off:whistle:

Tossed the center cat and baffle, cleaned things up then had a heck of a time brazing back together, hence the messy job. 70F85BAF-02D1-4D27-95CF-4208724C80E3.jpeg Opened the outlet and added a little pipe/deflector. DECFDEA0-31F2-4CB1-B6C7-E964F31C730D.jpeg
Another thing I found was there was no spike on the saw so I snagged one from my dealer. 5F751393-F22B-487C-B431-9DEB6946E8BE.jpeg

I’ve been running the 14” 3/8 lp .050 set up that came on the saw and it cuts ok. 4D74A7A5-9C4B-4F4A-87F3-2AD5B9C41D94.jpeg 2DF78F9D-76B9-43BE-9085-60421A174757.jpeg Although it chatters like crazy!!! So recently I picked up the stuffs to do the 1/4” conversion.... stay tuned! :binoculars:

I’ve heard it said about guns ...” if you know exactly how many you have, you don’t have enough”! I guess the same could apply to chainsaws:emb:

I opted to do a CAT "bypass" instead of opening the muffler all the way, just to make it a quick and easy job.....made an angled chute deflector and the exhaust now goes out of the opening at the bottom of the cover....

Here's a short video of the saw running the 1/4-.043 Stihl carving bar and chain, notice there is no chatter at all in the cut, and for a small saw, it does quite well. It's become my favorite climbing saw, and I will be buying/modding another this coming winter....

On the 1/4 pitch chain, the cutters are closer to each other in series than on the 3/8 pitch....therefore, the saw has less "chatter" in the cut, and is much smoother in the cut.

This new narrow kerf .043 1/4 pitch chain is pretty awesome for a climbing saw. That little echo is like a filet knife in the tree

so the carving bar is 1/4 pitch and not the stock Echo bar? Does the carving bar lessen kickback with the narrow nose?

These echos come standard in 3/8" - .043, and the carver bar may or may not help a little with kickback, but the 1/4 chain is known for slightly higher risk....

I'm in for the night, I'll have to take the bar off the saw and get some pics when I get a chance.

I welded the factory Stihl oiler holes shut first putting a piece of copper into the drive slot of the bar, and re-drilled new tensioner holes that matched the echo. Then, carefully drilled down from the bar slot to the tensioning holes, because that's where the Echo oil channels from.
