we are in the midst of a pellet shortage. Not being able to pick and choose has many just grabbing whats currently available. Not all stoves are created equal. Burn pot design on some make them rather picky on what it can and will burn. Choosing a stove that tolerates both premium and sub premium pellets is priceless during these lean times where you have to settle on a not so popular brand.

I try to steer peeps into a stove that is multifuel rated. multifuelers burn crappy pellets much better than the pretty stoves(that looks nice but has a burnpot design that can't deal with sub par brands). Like I said in my post to savemoney. All the brands you see are premium grade these days. Its not so easy to pick and choose from them by what it says on the bags.

So if your in the market for a new stove, And are looking a a top feeder. Try to stay in the multifuel rated units or look for the bottom feed units. Bottom feeders are more exceptable(as savemoney found) to sub par brands. There are a few exceptions to these rules. Quads are pretty exceptable to high ash fuels. So are the St. croix units with the versa grate.

Example: A co worker of mine is in the market to replace his breckwell(which is pellet picky and keeps loading up with crap fuel). He stopped at a stove shop and the are selling a Revalli European stove. The dealer told him straight up front that they tend to favor Premium grade pellets. That told me its a picky unit and unless he can afford the high dollar stuff it might be better to keep looking. He doesn't burn the good stuff and he can't afford $300+/ton pellets . He only buys cheap box store stuff. So I sent him to a place that has the Harman P43 and the Enviro M55. That dealer told him he can burn what he can afford with no issues and the M55 can burn straight corn(and many other fuels) if needed. I think he's going to purchase the P43 come summer. The M55 was a bit too pricey for him.

    Hope it helps!

Here is a flash. I had to ask for a repeat. The wife asked me to turn down the stove. She said it was too hot!

That comment alone justified buying the P-68. Must have made you feel better!

The M55 has all those nice snap discs and taking the burn pot pieces all apart to clean is fun too if you like puzzles!

Don has problems with more than 2 items. Having to assemble 4 pieces get him confused. :loco:

Don, I can remove my complete burnpot in 20 seconds. And I don't need to remove the igniter even! How long does it take with a Hormone?

Sorry Jay, it was just a comparison between the 2 stoves. The Harman does not need any disassbly. Once and while there is a bottom cover to take off to clean out below the burn pot. To be fair the m55 has one of the most rugged mult-fuel burn pots I have seen. :)

No need to be sorry. Any stove designed to burn pure multifuel and not just a blend is going to be more complicated with more moving parts. But it should also not be compared to a pellet only or semi multifuel. Cost of the additional parts should also be more expensive. Its a trade off if you want the option of burning 100% corn or other biomass fuels. IMHO a cost well worth paying when seasons like this one come to play. Plus the cleanings intervals should be less frequent! See thread: http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/enviro-omega-a-case-of-total-neglect.3642/

Look at the PC45 as an example. It has more parts(than a standard Harman) to mix and help keep the burnpot clear of build up. So it will be a bit more troublesome to clean and maintain. Just saying!!

    Carry on!

Pick ya poison, keep it clean, and it will keep you warm until the parts wear out.

Look you two old senile ones, the next thing to come in the mail will be the bills for their purchases and I can guarantee those will be for more than what you paid for your toys.

I bought some new toys and then she bought a new toy she won it was no contest.

    You have been warned.

Are you mobile? If there is no tool bar above the reply box, then the "Rich Text Editor" is off. There should be something below that says Rich Text Editor.

If it's not that? Then I don't know. All smilies are showing here.

I can't explain that one OM, I'm keeping the one I have so I shouldn't find out the price tag on such a situation. I just know that on the toy price lists her toys cost far more than my toys. My toys are going to decrease the yearly bills her's is going to increase them. Not that she really needs anymore fabric to run through that computerized toy but I'll bet there are several trips to the fabric stores starting with a large one in DC in less than a week from today. :hair:
