I can understand why someone would want a backup power source for those instance in which they can't shut down the stove prior to an outage.. Unless of course they have a leaf blower on standby to rig up quickly outside!!

What, to run your leaf blower?

17kw Generac? I think I just figured out how to get back-up power to my house.. Now where did I put my 700 mile long extension cord?!?!

Okay the problem is I did not lose power, I shut the stove down in anticipation of a power loss. After 3o minutes everything shut down and I went to bed. Little did I Know there was a fire smoldering in the ash pan that was going to smoke up the house, and leave a god awful rancid smell. Hell I still have a terrible headache. I am pulling at the strings as to what happened. As far as questioning the pellets, well even before this happened I was going to contact Lignetics, and there pizz poor quality control. Everyone has had there experiences with what there burning, and I am sorry but the batch I have is garbage, I just want to figure out what happened, I have shut the stove down countless times when it gets to warm in the house, and In my second year of burning this is a first

Problem is loose unburned pellets get into the ash pan and the heat of a good run gets them hot enough to smolder or smoke. This is usually on the start ups where it dumps lots of fuel in. It may also drop a fresh pellet during the normal auger feed cycle, But mostly on the initial burnpot fill is where the most get lost. Some pellets like the short ones loose more than other brands.

One thing that could help also is instead of afull shut down. Go to manual mode and set it in the lowest heat level setting to just let the stove idle for an hour or so. It won't burn much fuel, But it helps burn the loose pellets in the ash pan. Or at least let them get cool enough to die out and not smolder.

With the burnpot mod(adding wings to the fire grate sides) keeps loose pellets in the burnpot and not headed to the ash pan helps too. Keeping as much pellets as possible in the burnpot and not in the ash pan.

I was anal on loose pellets for more a waste factor in my Omega. And the burnpot is so far away from the ash pan I don't get the smolder like the cast version. The M55 steel is also less of a problem with smoldering pellets.

I'm wondering if possibly the stove possibly went thru a startup cycle shortly before you shut it down.....possibly fresh pellets smoldering away in the ash pan.....they can smolder for hours.........

The more I think about this, plus what others have commented in the thread, I'm pretty convinced that ANY pellet that had been burning in this stove would have caused the problem......not just Ligs. And the OP never answered my question on how many bags of the Ligs had been burned in the stove.

EDIT: An interesting statement in the owners manual for the Regency GC60

"KEEP ASH PAN FREE OF RAW FUEL. DO NOT PLACE UNBURNED OR NEW PELLET FUEL IN ASH PAN.
A fire in the ash pan may occur."

Hmm I smell a future wood burner here.. When we lose power the stove blower shuts off if it's running and the stove purrs happily along..

Or better yet, a good reliable battery back-up UPS like mine. Worry free warmth unless faulty stove which no one could remedy unless you're staring at it when it occurs which is most unlikely. So we are all vulnerable to a situation like this. A big good luck on clearing the air in the house, I feel your pain!
