Yeah but you'd think when its your full time job you'd get pretty good at it after a while! Totally different than the weekend warriors...although they can be pretty entertaining to watch!
And speaking of...I always hear the milling guys talking about how the blade is tracking...I suppose you have to actually be using it to see how that is...
In lieu of further derailing Redneck ’s thread, there are several PM’s addressing what you are hinting at discussing. Would you like to be invited in? Cos I’m sure Redneck would prefer to see his thread continue without these interruptions. Please respond by starting a PM speaking to this. Thanks, on behalf of FHC Moderating and Redneck.
Those woodmizers are good units. My BIL has a LT40 super and my uncle has a LT30 a lot like this one that has cut a gazzillion bdft and still works great. I wouldn't judge the blade tracking unless you are sure the blade is new. Just make sure the chassis is flat....with string or laser level. Measure the blade to chassis on both side all the way down the chassis too. If you can get it for $7,500 I'd be a buyer. This is probably one of the worst times in history price-wise to buy one, but if you decide to sell it later you will probably get your money back +/- $500. If you can't afford to loose $500 you shouldn't be buying it in the first place.
^^ x 2. I thought current offer was $6,950?!? come on Redneck we need And a place to by lumber if prices don’t go down
Actually current price is $6,550. But i want to see it cut / mill a log. Unit is in good shape. Its level and square with a lazer level and a 8 ft level.
I’m getting a little skeptical on it though he keeps coming up with excuses to not let me see a log run through it. Gave him til Saturday afternoon to have it ready ready to mill a log or two. I’ll even supply the logs. He hasn’t answered me yet.
As others mentioned tracking can be effected by the blade. The frame will only be as straight as the supports it sits upon. Still need to check the rails for bends tho. If the carriage is misaligned I’m willing to bet that’s a rather easy fix. Blade guides, bearings and engine should be the big wear components. Pretty simple stuff, it’s not a jumbo jet. If he’s getting cold feet either he’s hiding a defect or you talked him down too low JMO, not a sawyer.
Hopefully he gets it together and we run a few logs thru it on Saturday. If not on to another whim. Wasn’t looking for a mill just kinda stumbled upon it. Its is no big deal either way. It would be fun to have but not really anything specific i need it for.
