I have a customer that buys black locust to make outdoor furniture he does not like the pressure treated wood he has also bought some red cedar to make stuff but he likes the locust better he says it is harder to work with but it lasts better in damp locations he also uses stainless hardware yours really looks nice and it does look brown to me in pictures JB
I saw it for him at my mill check around at your local sawmills I specialize in Black Locust at my mill You are to far from me but I am sure there must be a small mill near you that can cut for you I would suggest buying it green it is a stable wood but very hard once it dries he uses the wood right off my bandmill just sands the finish off my mill does not need a lot to make it smooth I do not know if you can see finish real well but this is #1 select locust another choice for you would be douglass fir but that is really hard to find around here if you could find a specialty mill around you that would work with you you could make out good I know my customer makes some out of recycled barn lumber good luck if you cant find it I hope the Boonville woodsmans days is running this year and I could bring you a load up then JB
The Amish around here use a lot of Larch but I’ve never used it. I would like to go to Woodsman show also, we haven’t gone in a few years.
Larch would be a great choice very rot resistant and easy to work with there is a company that makes cutting boards from larch they use it end grain and it self heals itself I will try to remember the company I will have to think about it I will let you know JB
Larch Wood Handcrafts in canada is the name of the company if you go on woodmizers website and go to the customer stories section they have a video on how they make them JB
Saw this vid and thought of you, Dale. Pretty cool way to cut curved chair backs on the bandsaw. Forward to 7:00, but the rest of the vid is awesome also.
Amazing talent you have I do not have that kind of patience to do that kind of stuff nice work !! my woodworking skills usually end up with a chainsaw being involved JB
Those chairs look great! Perfect time of year to have them ready. My son wants to go to storage today and possibly get the lathe and band saw home and set up. We kept finding nice pieces of wood to use for wood working, while we were processing yesterday. Im beat still from yesterday, so maybe some shop cleaning time today. It has been way too long!
