I think Czed touched on one of the most important points when he said about looking at the exhaust and intake ports on the Hutzl/FarmerTec cylinders for sharp edges. Use a Dremel with a small burr and soften up any sharp edges around those ports, then do a good clean out of the cylinder. I learned the hard way on a Stihl 034 build I did last summer using a FarmerTec P/C, luckily all I ended up doing was breaking the rings......
I've been cutting 1/2 inch from the bolt tubes on each side. To allow more flow Noise isn't much louder at all And i can tell a difference when cutting. Just on the 5.00 china mufflers Oem one's get deflectors lol
Walt suprised me When he was telling me his first Clone 372 is still in use logging All china bearings etc. It's outlived a few oem 372s In that environment That's impressive. I did have a coil fail recently And the huztl replacement was junk. Husky used oem 345 346 350 353 etc . Coils Are easy to find and are interchangeable With a 372.
Yep I've used a few HLS coils for the 350 and they've been good. Hard to justify AM when you can find used oem for $15 delivered on the bay. Asian coils for a 394/5 are junk out of the box so far. If someone finds a good source for them please let me know
So far I am a bit disappointed in the quality of the cylinder casting. According to the Huztl Customer Service folks, their tech support guys figure it will work just fine and I can say that when I test fit the intake boot to it there seemed to be a nice secure fit. I will be using some Yamabond to make sure I get a leak proof connection.
Well, I dug in a bit more today and found I need to wait until Monday to get a new 6202-c3 bearing. The one on the right side, clutch side, feels a bit rough and I am not going to assemble this kit just to take it back apart. The only local source for that bearing is closed on weekends and only open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM during the week. Repeat after me, "It is nice to live in a small town".
Update: When shops opened on Monday, none of them had a 6202-c3 but they offered me a 6202-2rs instead. I really didn't want to pay for seals I would just end up trashing and did not want the tighter fit of a 6202 that was designed to run with grease at low RPMs even though I could have removed the seals. I ended up ordering a new bearing on line for under $10 including shipping for a Japanese manufacture 6202-c3 from vxb.com. Now I need to wait for Friday to move forward.
So I ended up with an internet sourced Japanese Nachi bearing and made some progress. Now I am waiting on the o-ring that seals the output shaft side that Farmertec does not include in their "total" package. I have been following the "step by step" videos by "Matthew Olson" to make sure I don't miss something along the way. I also found an intake replacement video by "Donyboy73" for the model 365 that showed me a great trick for getting that hard to place intake boot on the divider of the plate that sits under the carburetor. I did modify the trick a bit by doing his maneuver when the cylinder was not quite all the way down onto the casing. I was totally bummed out when I tried to slide the cylinder on over the piston but decided to try it again today before buying a special ring compressor tool and patience got it done this time. I had already decided that getting both rings where they needed to be was not going to be easy even with a ring compressor because the rings were so close to each other.
Ring compressors are the way to go. It takes a bit of maneuvering to get everything in position, but man it’s easier than zip ties or screw drivers. Nachi bearings are excellent quality and are priced at the right point in my opinion.
Running a bigbore with a 28 inch bar Dropping poplar and oak It's been a very good running falling saw. I've got under 300.00 in it Well worth it to me.
