If you check the older saw sites it appear they rolled out in '13 but are NLA.

They came out about 2 years ago..

I had a 455 when I was first getting into Firewood. They are not terrible saws for the average wood gatherer!

Pic below is 562xp, 455 Rancher, 036 Pro, and 460 Magnum.

Not sure if they stopped production of the AT 455/460. But they had one at my dealer about a year or so ago.

My 455 had a 20" bar. Most 460's at my dealer were 24". But you could get whatever bar you wanted. From 16" to 24" for either

I never knew they had an autotune 455 until I saw this thread. I have the standard 455 with a 20" bar and Dex is right it's not a bad saw but it's not a professional grade by any stretch. I do like my Rancher though and it has been a good saw for the most part. Have had it as my main go to saw for about 5 or 6 years now and cut from 6 to 10 cords per year, one of those years it was double that, while I was helping out a family at church.

And there it is..........good thing Stihl never had a problem with the M-tronic.
    You're correct.
Same here. My local dealer would take the 24" bars off, and hang them up. He would replace them with 20" a certain customer got for mere doughnuts.....

Some people think a chain saw is merely measured in bar length. I contemplated putting 20" bars on the 50 cc saw I had for sale to get those types more interested.

I have the 455 rancher and run it through 5-6 cords of softwoods a year such as larch, fir, pine and birch. It does bog down a bit but I like the weight as thats important to me. If there was a more powerful Husky saw at the same weight I would consider it for my next purchase. I just posted a new thread on noodling green larch and it seemed to do pretty good on it although I could tell it was working hard and getting hot. The 18 inch bar bothers me a bit. I use fuel stabilizer and when I fired it up today for the first time since November it took about 4 pulls and it was up and running. I was telling my wife yesterday how many of you guys and gals have multiple saws and she told me Im good with one. Fight the battles that are most important I guess. Now that fishing trip Im planning is not negotiable!

Indeed there is. Both the 555 and the 562XP offer more (a lot more) power for the same weight. The 555 is both lighter and much more powerful than the 455, but it's not a $400 saw either. But the extra $150 pays off in spades with the quality tool. Many of us who have been in this game for awhile, own the same high-quality saws we bought 10, 20, 30 years ago.

You'll find that many of us hoarders own 2 or three saws. Some of us are infected with a terrible disease called Chainsaw Aquistion Disorder and you should protect yourself from this horrifying condition at all costs. But owning 2 saws is certainly not unreasonable, as cutting firewood inevitably requires cutting up a fair bit of smaller branches and brush. You certainly can use a larger saw like the 455/555 for this, just like you could drive thumbtacks with a sledgehammer. But the right tool for the job is easier on you ergonomically, more productive for sure, and most importantly, safer for the operator. ;)

    Like the folks at Sears?

"What model of saw is that?" "16 inch!"

    LOL! Well said.

I usually cringe when I hear this.....

"What length blade does it come with?"

The 346 is probably lighter than your saw and has close to the same power. Now ported there would be a huge difference in power.

And I have a 555 for my work truck saw. It's a heck of a saw and way more than the rancher could even think about being!

But yea you need 2 saws. For a firewood cutter a 60 or 70cc saw and a 40 to 45 cc saw is the sweet spot. Small one for topping and branches and stuff and the big one to buck. Your way more productive. And small saws are not that expensive. Heck you can get the little ms170 for like $180 and it's great on tops and small 6" or less stuff..or if you have to climb a little or walk in a tangled top on a downed tree dragging a big saw in that on a hot day is no fun

Thanks this is good to know. I just assumed a bigger saw would weigh more. I dont think $150 is enough that it would sway me away from a purchase.

I have five 2 saw combos like this. I also a have a couple of 80cc and 100cc combos, and three 30cc top handle saws.

I believe you meant MS170 for $180. Fat thumbs?

It's really not any "bigger" per say. 55.5 vs 59.8cc

Just a much more efficient engine and better materials in the saw chassis. It's a 1 hp difference though and that's more than enough to feel a seat-of-the-pants difference.

And the 555 is a slightly detuned version of the 560XP. Kind of like how the Husqvarna 261 was a "detuned" version of the cult favorite 262XP.

Technically, what is the "blade"? Is it the bar, or the chain? LOL
