Be careful about the top cover, the two piece coilrequired a change in the posittions of the top cover bolts. Also, trying to use the 272 muffler will contact and melt the top cover.
Stock 272 runs great IMO. Had a aftermarket 272 on a 268xp and the saw still impresses me today when it comes back in the shop for work.
Im wondering if the 272 top cover will fit the 66. Actually im thinking the original gray cover will work on the 272 cylinder
Usually the saws with a 2-piece ignition have one top cover bolt hole in the case in a different place than the saws with a 1-piece ignition, like the 272 and so the top covers do not interchange.
I'm just going to give links as this stuff is already posted on my site if you do the search for it. Just a few you can do the rest of the searching. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum....sqvarna-61-161-266-268-272/msg28706/#msg28706 http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-268/msg6535/#msg6535 http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/266-272-blend/msg6068/#msg6068
Killians not sure if its 2 piece but assuming it is. It has a large coil mounted in front of the flywheel and 2 wires going to a small coil on the opposite side of flywheel . The small coil has the sparkplug lead on it
Yes, as the bolt pattern in the case is differemnt for the top cover on the two vs. the one piece ignition saws.
Alil update. The 272xp cylinder will fit the 66. The intake spacer from a 272 has to be used with the 66 carb and air filter elbow. Had to use the 272 carb mounting bolts that are 1 piece instead of 2 on the 66. The 66 top cover will still work when using the 272xp cylinder. Waiting on a few parts to finish
Which Husky saws were built by Tomos? Never seem that! Did Tomos saws always use the italian Gilardoni jugs ?
Got her cranked and tuned this morning!! These old saws are freakin awesome. Instant throttle respose after I tuned low speed and a slight 4 stroke on the big end. The intake and exhaust was widen to 3/16 of the skirt edge but didnt decrease squish because this is goin to an older family member and didnt want it too hard to crank. Waiting on a clutch/ brake handle and will install and make a few videos for u guys . This saw will wear a 20" narrow kerf woodland pro and full chisel. Im really excited as this was my first older husky and hybrid I have done. Feels very strong so far
Any ideas for muffler mod? I drilled an extra 3/8 hole in the center of inner baffle plate? Seems responsive enough
There were 2 types of muffler available for the 66 in 1989, one with a tube out the front corner and one with a screw on deflector and screen on the side. Neither are avilable today however HVA refered to the 'tube' type as a 'silencer' and the other type as 'SA'. Which type do you have on the saw?
