This a question about the transfers. I’ve come across impulse ports being mismatched on aftermarket stuff. This is similar. Notice the case stain and then notice these semi-closed port transfers on the cylinder, 50% of which is cut off by the gasket. And that’s ok, because the crank case does it too. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a mis match here that someone tried to make right after a toasted top. Can anyone tell me what the original intent was for this cylinder?
It’s just a detuned open port cylinder made to fit on a saw that was designed for a full extension. Gotta remember, it started out as a 162SE, which was a closed port side fed cylinder with a full extension like a 262, 394, 2100, etc. Husky put it in the ranch class with an open port cylinder on it and took off the XP designation probably to gain a share in the farm/ranch designation with a lower price point. If you were to lay the gasket on top of the case, it fits perfectly
Yup, gaskets was fine. Gone now Thanks! I’ve seen elsewhere others grinding on the case to match transfer, but on closed port saw. I’m not going that direction
How’s the saw coming? I’ll have to post some of the 61 project I’ve got going. It’s got the same gasket blocker!
You can see the cylinder transfer outlines on the gasket here too. Solid non window piston. Had a shred of aluminum got sandwiched in the intake gasket between the cylinder and intake. Two coils?
What year is that saw? Mine looks very similar. It’s an 88 but wearing a 300 anniversary cover. I put it back together with a gasket delete. Still looking for the right chain break. It’s kinda on the back burner. I’ve got a 372 all tore apart to clean, thinking of replacing rings since it’s apart, new fuel line, carb rebuild slap it back together. Has an 043 squish with the gasket and about 150#s. Pretty sure it’s going back with out the gasket and some muffler work.
I’ll have to see if I can make out the name plate stamp to get the year. It looks like it’s been drug around behind a skidder for a long time. This one has a black top though and a plastic brake flag. As far as that 372 seems like a lot of air space in there for the squish!
Just curious, what rpm does it stop 4 stroking at? Acres says 12,5 max after break in. Do you tune to a number or do you take it just out of 4 stroking and back down a bit? She sounds really fat in the vid. Model Profile: 61
It’s only around 10k right now. I tune by listening. I did some grinding inside and put in a new ring. Also gutted the muffler. It was slobbering when I first started it so I’ve leaned it out quite a bit. I’ve got to run it some more later and see if I can lean it some more. It’s got an 8 pin rim and pulling a pretty aggressive chain on a hard nose bar.
Just noticed that crack looking thing at about 6:30. Makes me feel a little better that it’s probably casting birth mark and not the result of a drop. Or maybe I’m seeing things. Saw sound mint!
Unfortunately that shroud is cracked due to droppage. The crack goes three different directions. If you look right where the handle is the case is smashed up. I’d bet it’s a common thing to crack that shroud since it’s finicky to take out and really thin right there.
I know you were referring to the 372 your working on, but I just checked this 61 I’ve got here. It’s blowing 150# with the gasket and .042 squish at 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I just pulled the cylinder and cleaned things up a bit so tomorrow I think I’m going to lay down some sealant and toss the gasket. The gasket measured .020 so should bring things in pretty good.
Blowing 173 cold now. Tried tuning it and I may have got the impulse plugged with sealer! It starts, idles and revs up then falls on its face in the cut. Back to the drawing board!!!
