    DOLMAR - Dealer locator

Link to their dealer locator as its not all that obvious to find on their website. ;)

You can always handle a 6420 at your local Home Depot tool rental department.

Some folks like me have to drive close to 60 miles to get to these mysterious talked about tool rental HD's.

Not if he was keeping a smaller saw around as well. And going to a big bar every once in awhile while absolutely rocking a 20" is where a saw like the 6400 will shine.

Personally I'd keep the 20" and a 28" for the 6400 and trade the 455 off for something smaller. Dolmar 421, Echo CS400, maybe the CS490.

I enjoy the 20" bar size for most of the cutting I do now but there will be a need for the longer bar on some of the tree length being delivered.
I'd say the 20" is my standard "working" bar size. But whatever saw it ends up being I want to know it will handle 28" when it has to.

If you are considering going "semi-pro" with a firewood business I'd be looking at a pro built saw... I think the Dolmar would be my target for 60cc but I am more of a 70cc guy in which case go Dolmar again with 79xx series if new.

I buy used pro saws, on steroids, and haven't regretted it yet. They are within your <$600 price and can be fixed much easier as well as catch higher resale value. Stihl, Husqvarna, they all work, Dolmar is harder to find locally but online dealers and site members make that easy enough.

Good luck in your search. No disrespect to your 455, but it will probably sit in the background if you do go for a true pro saw. They are a rather bloated saw and not much fun to work on.

Thanks for your advice, leaning in the right direction 60+ cc. Husky and Stihl are all around me where I live, the jreds and dollars not so much.
So if the dolmars have decent resale prices should I assume new will pinch my pocket?

Well the 465 won't really handle a 28" bar any better than a 555 or 562. What Jon said was spot oif your interested in used saws hang out in the classifieds. There some smokin deals to be had there on good saws.

Dolmar is not as much as stihl but there not cheap either.

The last time I was in a Dolmar dealer's shop (albiet one of the biggest/best in the country) he was blowing 6400's out the door for a tad (and I mean a TAD) over $500 + tax. Dunno if that price is still good but I'm sure you could snag a great deal on one of these saws.

Resale on the Dolmars is good here on the forums, kind of a tough sale elsewhere due to the lack of brand recognition. Not impossible, just a lot slower moving than a Stihl.

Yea I was thinking they were sub $600. And yea sell it on forums where people know what saws are worth, not on CL where idiots buy worn out tankers and farm bosses for $300 and won't touch a dolly

Or look up Bob at Ashokan Turf & Timber, Shokan NY for shorter shipment, on Husqys/Jonnys. (Jonsered goes for different front handle geometry.) Or, if your tastes run to Dollies you might contact Steve at The Cutting Edge, Greenwich NY for info.
Then there's the Echo (Shindaiwa) CS-590, a great buy.
Bob at Ashokan has some helpful vids on Husqies/Jonnies- search YouTube on "Spike60"; what Bob doesn't know about those saws, well ...
Steve (channel "dolmar 166") has some YT vids showing Husqy 562 and Dolly 6100.

If I where going to be spending that kind of money. The 6100 is what I would spend it on. If I wanted to keep some money in my pocket I would look real hard at a echo 590.
Although I do own a 6100 and like it so much I am biases. However it is one smooth, easy starting, easy cleaning, cutting machine.

Yep that is me. That is a white oak and at that section it is probably about 18 in across . It is just some Oregon chain nothing special .
    Barcroftb thanks for sharing.
I will probably throw that video on there as well.
