Just my 0.2, it has been down 12+ months, if they had and we're willing to pay $1000 to have it cleaned up it would be gone.

The top is already gone, there is a ton of work but also a ton of wood there, they may go for $200-300 but I doubt they are going to be willing to pay anything to get rid of it if they haven't yet in over a year... Or they think they have a $10,000 Mill log...

I would say if you want it for the YouTube content and the wood I would go for it otherwise I would just let it lay.
But you're the one that has to do the work and you never know what they would say so it's completely up to you, never know unless you talk to them.

Good points. Maybe they'll want me to pay them.

    :picard:

In my experience these huge Oaks that come over in storms almost always have rotten centers. A lot of log truck grapples wouldn't lift this monster I don't think.

Yeah, this thing could go multiple ways when you talk to them, that's why I think you should have an idea what you want and expect before you talk to them. You never know, it could be an extremely short conversation when they tell you nope or get lost. But the fact that it's going to be tons of work obviously doesn't scare you too much, cause we're talking about this beast....so put the ball in their court and see where it lands you. Oh, and like everyone says on all the other threads...we want pictures.

Oh they'll be pictures...and a video on YT. That will be part of the deal is I get to film/video record the process. Could be beneficial anyways if legal issues ever arose to prove what was there and what was done.

I'm hoping they are happy to finally have someone offer to cut it up for "only" a few hundred dollars. I'm thinking 500 cash at this point.

    lol

My luck in the past on these suggests that won't be how it goes down. I'm asking either way.

I don't think $500 is out of line at all and I would not do it for less. As you stated on the weight, you will make many trips and fuel is not cheap plus wear and tear on all of your equipment. I'd approach it just as a possibility and probably my first question would be, "How long has that log been there?" That would no doubt get them to thinking right away and you may even get your answer right then as to yes they might be interested or no, it is not a problem and not willing to pay.

My guess is they think they are setting on some big dollars in wood and can make money rather than pay.

I love getting wood for free and doing paying jobs that get me wood as well. A tree that size id pass as the grunt factor is too much and i dont have equipment. Having equipment at your disposal i can see you doing it. I wouldnt do it just to cover cost though. Make a few bucks for your expertise.
Any pics of said tree SBA?

The liability form is here on the FHC in the resources section. It can be printed and anyone can use it. Here's the link

Seems like you really want to process to make money off YouTube which is great if you can. I would still want to get paid in that $500-$1000 range to tackle wood that big. I try to practice not doing work for someone else and not get paid.

THIS! That tree is yard waste till it's processed & stacked. If you don't need firewood charge accordingly. My minimum is $1000.00 per day for tree work. Chipping necessary it goes to $1500.00. Stump grinding adds another $ 500.00. Keep in mind that my pricing is based on what I make at my "real" job. If I can't make similar doing trees why bother with big stuff like that? I can source plenty of firewood to burn & sell without wrestling those monsters. Don't undersell your equipment & abilities, very few people can handle a job like that, that's why it's still laying there.

    For those unaware.

Yes, obviously I want to make money from YT if possible. That is not the case though. Here's why.

YT doesn't pay you unless you are monetized, which means 1000+ subscribers AND 4,000 watch hours. I am not a monetized channel, despite them running ads on my video's which is now legal and pizzes me off, but that's another topic. I would greatly appreciate it if any of you want to help the cause and subscribe. My watch time far exceeds my subs as of now. I know some of you are subscribed and watch my content and I truly appreciate it. Its a family channel with my kids', and hopefully it can turn into something great one day. So far its been rewarding and fun, although I do spend a lot of my free time and money on it.

The video will be fun to make, fun to watch, and will get me views and probably a few subs. I need to get paid cash though, or its just not worth my time and effort. I took pics this morning but my Image shack membership is up, so I have to pay to play.

Here is the tree. Hard to tell maybe or maybe not, but it’s a good 60-66” diameter. The stump root ball is a good 10’ tall

Thinking on it, the biggest issue could well be the stump. They'd have to be ok with me leaving it or pushing it to the edge of the lawn.

Man-o-man. That has me chomping at the bit... I love huge scores like that. Getting a years worth of heat is payment enough for me. I get that not everyone is a scrounge-hoarder though. And I fully understand the work involved. This was probably the largest base I've worked. 42" bar.

Home owners were ok on 2 separate occasions with me leaving the huge rootball. I explained there was no way my chain would survive cutting through all the rocks and dirt contained within.

Oh hell no for free. Now seeing that, it’s $1000 minimum. I see a fair amount of rot potential in that trunk and that rootball…

I've worked my fair share of bigguns' in the past. Here's a 42" diameter Oak I got from about 1.5 miles the other direction from my house. The job in question makes this look like branch wood.

As was mentioned by others, never mind the average person, but the average woodcutter/woodburner even doesn't have the skills, ability, or equipment to deal with wood this size. People that do tend to own companies and charge accordingly.

Most people with saws I know who aren't professionals have about a 50cc saw with a 16" bar. Often a homeowner model. Its just the reality. We can't go around pretending everyone's slinging a long bar.

You guys convinced me. Its $1000 cash and the wood or bust. I'm gonna go halves with my brother. I don't want to tackle it by myself. So really only $500 each.

These trees look big driving by. They grow EVEN LARGER when you get up next to them. A lot of work in this monster.

I never knew that about YT and subscribers and watch hours. Very interesting.

That says, yeah, that's a big tree, but at least it's easy to access, not in some ditch or other difficult to access spot. Keep us updated!

I'll find your YouTube channel and do some watching and subscribe. I like to support FHCers whether possible.

Yeah and that's a twisty bastard too. You'll find it may not split well and like jrider said it's likely rotten in places.
