Tom, your file job is improving very fast! You have good teachers. I've seen guys not get it for a lot longer amount of filing.

I decided not to bring a saw with me, to file and soak it all in. I am just holding and looking at the file. I should have spent more time looking at the file and chain before filing.

Thanks for the encouragement. Y'all have been providing awesome feedback.

My plan was not to file the chain all the way to square right away. Slowly file it over to square, and only file it till it was sharp. I was figuring it would take more than 3-4 filings to fully convert to square. In my mind I did not want to file good metal down, that I could go saw with. Looking back I think this may not have been wise.

On a different note, my works connection tach made it to the house today. And looks like my ported 026 may be at the post office for pick up. Tomorrow morning before work will be exciting. I also plan on trying out the 441 chain on the bucking pile.

I would like to thank each of you for helping me with my square filing. I appreciate your effort to teach via the internet. :handshake:

Yours will last for firewooding. His may be more for racing. It's all a balance. His may tear through a stack in no time
Yours may take longer to get through the pile, but you won't have to sharpen as often

I do it the same way. I hate wasting good chain. 3 or 4 well placed strokes is sharp.

How's you Kevin? Thanks for the feed back. I am enjoying experimenting with the filing. I imagine that it will take a little while to figure out what angles work best for my white spruce. I don't get to cut much white birch but I am sure that will be a different angle. I am enjoying learning.

Love them. Very durable. I’ve not dressed one yet and been using for a while now.
