Good morning fellas---you seem to be the perfect crew to ask this: has anyone used one of those saws with the handle on top? I'd think you would loose a lot of control in that position (the saw---the saw---keep to the topic)
Good morning scavenger. Top handle saws are light weight and are easy to handle. They are great for arborist work in trees.
I love my top handle saws. In fact I just bought a new stihl 193t. For the small stuff, you can't beat it. 6lbs or something crazy light. As a guy with a bad back, any chance I get to run a smaller saw, I do. No need to lug 60+ cc's of saw around when the biggest wood you need it for is 12 inches. I find I get more done with a smaller saw on small wood because after a while of running the big saws I ( my damm back) need a break. With the small saw, the only break I need is a refueling break. What's your current small saw? And oh yea.....how's you everyone?
MS180C Stihl (my toy) It's the only one I've used for my 4-5 year stash. Bought in 2008 runs like a champ as I keep regular service visits for her---one chain (yikes)
I have a 180 also. It collects dust. Not sawdust.....dust from sitting on a shelf. It's 2 lbs heavier than the 193t, and almost the same (1cc larger) size motor. The big advantage to the 193 besides the weight is that the 193 has anti vibe and the 180 does not. The bar and chain will swap between the 2. The fact that you can 1 hand the top handle models is another benefit, once the user is experienced enough to do so.
Hi Mike. Hope your day started good. Mine did. Local Ducati shop popped that cap loose and didn’t charge me to do so. We have a little poo-lan top handle saw. It runs great! How’s the climbing goin?
