The fertilizer cost has gone crazy, but we figured it would when all the plants around here closed and now the fertilizer is imported. The last I knew here it is right around $1000 per ton!!! Some have planted without fertilizing and we think they are betting on crop insurance to get any return on seed and planting costs.

$1,000 / ton, right? Previously it ranged from $380 to $700, depending on the year and blend.
One neighbor had pre-bought, and another hadn’t and he went light with hopes the price would drop by next year. I rely on manure and clover in the pastures, so have been largely unaffected.

Just another reason not to eat 'hamburger' at fast food places like Booger King or Wendy's or Mc Dees and possibly Arby's. You know they are buying the least expensive and who knows where it came from.

We always know "who" we are eating. Used to be easy, Sam, Lunch, Dinner, Burger, you know easy names. Now the grandkids name them and boy do they come up with some names! Either way, as we put it in the freezer we put the calf's or pig's name on it. When we knew city people and they ate at our house it would catch them by surprise. Now I am old, grumpy and the pandemic intensified my hermit tendencies so don't associate with many people any more.
