You must be referring to the install of the stove I posted 2 years ago on the old site. I had to "hoist" the stove up to the deck using scaffolding. But the "Firewood Hoist" in this post is brand spanking new! ;)

Yes, that is what I was referring too. Don't remember for certain but I was thinking you spoke of updating the hoist. Either way, nice work.

Liftmaster makes a receiver module with a wireless remote control that may work, if you wanted to make it wireless. Wow what an amazing set up! That is some awesome workmanship

Thanks. I had thought about a remote, I have one on my garden tractors winch I use once in a while. But I would really never need to operate it if I'm not standing on the deck with the wired remote. No reason to raise it while standing down below....

I can think of a reason Mach... and you could run a 2nd wired control downstairs too if you didn't want to buy the remote system. You could set up to do your splitting under the crane head and use it to lift heavy rounds onto a splitter. Could also use it for general lifting of things in and out of your trailer/truck. Bet you'd find other ways to use it on the ground too. My 2 cents...

It is such an awesome set up the uses are endless. I live in a ranch that I waited a long time to live in, first time I've been envious of a house with levels. Once again, great job. And the documentation was great

thats awesome! Groceries and anything that would fit i would send up in that basket. Those gorilla carts are sweet as well. I love mine and use it quiet often.

We use if for Costco stuff all the time... You know, cases of water, 50lb bags rice for the next 37 years....! ;)

Yea, I love the gorilla cart. I only wish I had that a few years ago before I had the tractor. I used to haul rounds out of the woods with a hand cart that was a bee-otch to handle. The gorilla cart makes it soooo easy. My woodshed is about 30' from the hoist, so I just load the cart and roll over to the basket and load it. 1 hoist load is good for 3 or 4 days of 24x7 burning, so I do 2 hoists and I'm good for the week. My back feels good just thinking about how I used to carry all the wood up! ;)

    UPDATE!

My hoist got three nice upgrades last week for the new season. My buddy has a sign business, so he brought over his bucket truck for 30 minutes so I could to do the upgrade.

    1. Installed a fairlead on the outside of the hawse pipe that the cable exists the wall from which keeps the cable from hitting the side of the hole and/or house siding when the hoist is brought to the side to unload. The fairlead rollers now keep the cable off the wood. The brown/orange stuff in the hole behind the fairlead is just "GAP foam", I filled the hawse pipe with foam over the summer when I discovered a bird decided to make the motor housing a nice condo, entering and exiting through the hole/hawse pipe.

    2. Fabricated and installed a new pulley mount on the hoist arm. The old mount was just a 3/8" galvanized eye bolt, bolted through the hoist arm from which the pulley hung from. It was probably not strong enough, and was also putting allot of pressure (entire load) on one spot on the hoist arm where it went through it. So I wanted to spread out the load, and make it stronger. This accomplished both, now the load is spread out over 6" of the arm instead of just around a bolt. The pulley now hangs from a stainless 1/2" eye bolt which goes horizontally through the new mount which is a double layer of 1/4" marine grade aluminum.

    3. Upgraded the pulley. The old pulley was a regular steel pulley that comes with most hoist/winch motors. It was cheap, crappy, no idea what weight it was rated for... and starting to rust already. So I bought a marine 314 Stainless Steel pulley good for 2500 lbs (normally used on outriggers on commercial fishing boats). Rolls MUCH better/quieter (no squeaking...), heavy duty all stainless including the hardware, and will last longer than I do! ;)

Still going strong! But I'm going to have to replace the cable this summer, the regular steel cable that comes on the winch is rusting pretty good. I'm going to order a stainless Steel cable to replace with.
