I've used a lot of electric saws saws over the years. Way back then I was never impressed, but now they're pretty good. All I remember from the 70's is the chain coming of while I was cutting. Never good.

Probably 38, my dad had a horrible old craftsman that leaked gas if tilted it the wrong way or filled the gas beyond halfway, he was afraid it would burst into flames, and never let me use it.
When I moved here the church had a Stihl, it was abused and didn't run well. I bought a used husky, and now only run Echo

I think I was 13-14 when my dad first let me run his Poulan "wild thing" saw. He had me stacking and moving wood since I could walk. I learned trust at a young age when he would have me put the chunks on the chopping block and hold the ones that wouldn't stand on their own. I'm 31 now and he's 63 and still makes me hold the stubborn chunks or the splitting wedge while he swing the sledge. He hasn't missed...yet.

Good thread idea buZZsaw BRAD, I’d been thinking about just that probably a week before you started thread. I’m not sure exactly but I was probably in my mid teens 13 to 16 or so. My dad was good about teaching me things and letting me try stuff. I’m sure this is probably the Saw I used or maybe another little McCulloch 110, those are the only two saws dad ever owned as far as I know. 8F34CBC1-DD79-47D2-8171-9925F85F8F44.jpeg Was going to reply sooner but I finally got a chance to get a picture of the saw

Mini Mac , I had a couple of those. Long gone by now.

Wished I had held on to them and my original Poulan but a garage cleanup over the years probably sent them to the curb:doh:

Early teens for me. Dad owned a saw shop in the late 50's so he knew his way around saws. The first saw I bought new was a Homelite 360 pro in 1978 actually I bought two as the first one got burned up in a fire. I did some pulp cutting for a winter then firewood for a few years. I cut for Mom and Dad with a Jonsereds 70e Dad bought, after a few coils and they became nla I bought a new MS440. I used that as my only saw for 13-14 years. Now I have that saw, but ported 2 026's one ported a 394xp and an Echo cs3400 and a Puolan 2000. I cut around 30 to 40 cord a year. Great post, it has brought back some memory's.

I think I was 13-14. I worked on a horse farm and we would cut oak poles to build a coral. My dad bought a Stihl in '74 after getting advice from a forester friend. He suggested getting a heavier saw so no one was tempted to cut over their head, etc. I still have the saw, although it is no longer functional. None of today's safety features...

Wish I would have kept them too, the one in the picture was pulled out of the iron pile just for the photo. Been outside in the scrap pile for several years now. Locked up :(

I believe I was about 14 when dad showed me how to use a chainsaw.
It was a Partner P55 no chainbrake in that one. Taught you to be careful quick

I was probably 12-13 when I started with grandpa’s saws, either an Echo top handle or a Stihl 041 farm boss, cleaning up fence lines or cleaning up under the walnut trees. Still running Stihl, as that’s the only good mechanic around- we have an Echo dealer, but they don’t fix much.

If you gave a saw to a 12 year old today, child protective services would open a case against you as you might do something else horrible like let that same 12 yr. old ride his bike to the park. Or something equally horrendous, like drink out of a hose. I miss America.
