Just finished my second trailer load so probably 2/3 of a cord of oak and a tiny bit of hedge. Gonna check the chimney tomorrow.
About the same as last year at this time, even just burning 3-4 days weekly & evenings. The NG furnace picks up the slack,I don't burn wood when its over 55 or so.Until yesterday the previous 9 days felt more like late January than mid November. Still working on the remaining chunks/uglies,milling scrap & few odds/ends but have plenty of Silver Maple/Green Ash that gets mixed in with a few ''good'' pieces of White/Red Oak & Shagbark/Mulberry/Honey Locust.Guessing 1/2 pickup load (1/4 cord) burned so far. Temps back down to upper 20's Monday through next Friday after a 50-55 degree weekend,so back to burning once again.
Did you get the snow or are you east of there? My wife went to St. John Fisher in Rochester and said they don't get much snow there.
I'm north of it, about 5 miles from Lake Ontario. We're usually spared the worst of it up here. Everything usually blows W->E, and we're kind of in the shadow "between" where the 2 lakes meet, if you will. Buffalo and the "south towns" are directly East of Erie, and "upstate" NY I think where thewoodlands lives, is directly east of Ontario. So they tend to get hit with the "lake effect" the hardest.
The plateau? I remember driving up there in the winter and the truck directions were different in the winter. I believe the town was lowville. Yeah, where you are the lake effect tends to miss. I grew up in the town of North East, Pa right on I90 and the NY line. My parents still live there and have almost three feet..lol.. It all depends on the exact direction of the wind where the bands dump..
So far about 1/3 of a cord of shoulder stuff and maybe 1/6 cord of good stuff. That is pretty bad considering we normally do not start the stove 'till Thanksgiving. The other problem is that once I start the stove I can't let it go out. It could be in the mid-70s in the house and they complain about the cold. So now, no matter how warm it gets outside, I have to have a couple of chunks or uglies in there. KaptJaq
I've burned about 1/2 cord of chuglies (chunks and uglies), and about 1/2 cord of ash/cherry mix. Between my old defiant, lack of insulation, cold weather, 2400 square feet, and liking the house about 77° I burn a lot. I've got six ready to go for this year, and six more for next. My furnace only ran one morning just to make sure she was still ready. I keep the stat at 50°. It will come on occasionally during the coldest days if I'm gone 16 hours or better.
Well I have been burning for a long while now, started early for DHW and moved on. I'm not exactly sure how much I've burned so far. But over a full cord already I would think.
About 2/3 cord of good stuff and a dozen grape crates of scraps. About on par for this time of year .
I've burned maybe a cord in my old Fisher so I'll admit to it too. Propane has not been on at all and if I have my way it won't all winter! Went through a good bit this week but it looks like it's warming up here now. I've gone through my shoulder stuff so it's mostly oak from here on out.
Yeah, about the same here. It hasn't been a warm Fall this year and I like it really hot inside. I'm insulted if I can't sit around with just a tshirt on during the Winter.
One cord bin of primo red oak gone already. Chopping my three year plan off at the knees unless I get a little more than promises of log loads. Hoping we have one of those Winters that start off cold and then we have a warmish Jan/Feb although there aren't to many extended forecasts hinting at a strong possibility.
Wood is my only heat Along with the chunks and odd balls I think I burned about a third of the chord so far
Probably a cord into it this year. The pretty good sized shop eats up 90% of the btu's. Also 100% wood heat and DHW.
I'm doing good, stove has only eaten 1/4 cord so far - I do have a small house though, brick rancher - 1200sqft - all new windows. Doesn't take much to warm her up.
