Question: I am in the process of having new a/c installed at my house. It's partway done, and the guys are coming back tomorrow. While they were here, I was going to see if they could help me wrestle my SCF 050 down the stairs and into the basement. How much extra cash should I slip them for a tip/thank you? The SCF weighs almost 400 lbs, the stairs are straight, and not too steep, good condition, etc. What do you think is appropriate?
How many workers are there? It took 3 of us to get the Fahrenheit down the steps using an appliance dolly. We tied two 6' nylon straps to the top of the Dolly handles and two guys stayed up top and basically held the weight with the straps and one guy below to help guide it. Took all of 5 minutes once it was strapped to the dolly. I gave each buddy a case of beer (or $20 cash). So I was out about $40, but it was fast, easy, and painless.
I agree with Dex, a couple of guys and having everything ready for that stove to move will make things more simple for them to say yes.
