i have never calculated my cord usage. i stack wood in the garage and bring it in from outside as the weather permits to replace what i have burned. i always stack the same amount inside and depending on the year have to bring in the difference. this year has been mild and i will have more left over than usual if it continues to be mild. last year i was closer to running out than ever, but we made it just fine.

pile1.jpg pile2.jpg I only heat my shop right now, still need to install the insert at the house. I'd say 90% seasoned and stacked left and a big O' pile waiting to be split into manageable pieces. :)

I don't calculate it either, I just burn it by the row. Each one is 14 feet long, 3 to a cube, and can vary in height from 5 to 6+ feet. I just pick up in the fall on the row that I left off on in the spring. 3-5 rows a year. So long as I have 10 or more rows I'm ahead. I have 12 lined up, I'm good.

I've burned about 2 cords so far and have 2 left in the stack for this year, plus another cord plus right outside the basement door under the deck. I'm going to start using that come March, so only a few more weeks of hauling wood in from the stacks. Ahead of schedule so far for sure and will have a good bit left over for next year.

In October we move wood into the barn that will be burned that winter. 3 rows does just fine for us. And of course we remember that:

Half your wood and half your hay should still be lift on groundhog day.

We've burned one row so far. I still have to go out this afternoon and bring a little bit to the porch and I'll try to determine how much of that is left but I'm certain we'll have wood left over in the barn come spring.

As for the total. I'm not sure right now but we do still have a few stacks outdoors.

Sitting high on the hog yet. Have Near 2 cord of poplar/ bit o pine/willow from last year in the shed, about half a face cord of pine on the side, and about 3 wheelbarrows of nasty ugly wood I'm chipping away at right now. Plus another maybe 1/3 cord outside somewhat under a tarp. Severely ugly stuff. The kind you cut into 8" tall rounds, split, and burn the chunks.

I plan on burning what's in the shed next year first to rotate my wood stock.

Around here I think we're well past the halfway point. I start buring in October, so beginning of February is 4 months. 4 months from now would be end of May, and there haven't been too many years when I'm burning then. And according to the groundhog, spring is coming much sooner than that!
