All the things that come with a big property I thoroughly enjoy doing. Plowing, mowing, cutting storm trees, etc. It’s a way of life and gives me things to do that don’t cost a ton of money.
5 acres - 4.5 acres are heavily covered with pine forest. Most of it is hillside, so it makes it challenging to take trees....so most of my firewood comes from scrounging elsewhere. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I can relate I enjoy doing those things. I have buddies that hire a lawn service, they are mowing a postage size stamp lawn, I can't figure it out but to each is own. It's a little work, like I say it keeps you active, keeps you in shape I enjoy it. When I go out to do some work around the house I say to my wife "Babe I am going out to play" literally that's what I say.
We're currently in OR, caretaking/house sitting a family member's property. Small farm, some hilly terrain, 23 acres, and mostly wooded. More needles than leaves on the trees. Recently obtained written landowner permission from a neighbor to 'scrounge' downed/dead.
These are all good points! One of the hardest things for me is the taxes... I am the one of the cheapest people alive so forking our property tax is a major pet peeve of mine! But everything else I’m on board with.
