I've never heated this house with anything but wood, but I'm probably only saving ~$500 a year with "free" wood. Electric is CHEAP here and I don't need much heat. NG is even CHEAPER but not available out in the woods.

That's fine. The wood is staying.

That explains why you don't mind when your wife uses the Keystone as a giant Christmas decoration. I was like "that really wouldn't fly in this house."

That was Oldhippie's FV, I thought the same. The KS is our only real source of heat. It was -2F and windy recently, I can't have the KS tied up with Christmas decorations.......

It's probably the auto-spell. Happens to me all the time. I have to proof my posts most of the time.

Right where I want to be.
You have more than a leg up because you have 3 years worth of wood in your first year.
You've actually created a hedge against inflation, so.......bonus.

A few years back it would have been close to 300/mo. with a bunch of changes maybe 100/mo. I have the ng unit set a couple notches higher this year due to having a problem shaking a sinus infection. I fully expect a fairly heft bill, for me ( $ 250?) in about 10 days ( gas and electric combined) rather than the $125 it has been at this time of year.

I burn about 100 gal of K1 from Dec. to Dec. Sometimes furnace comes on in July set at 60 degrees, in winter furnace set at 64 degrees and furnace runs early in am till I restoke the stove, so I save 300 to 325 gal. of K1 per year...Total savings if I buy a couple cord is still $800. to $900. per year plus love making fire and being warmer and not worried about power outage....Scrounging ups my savings even more....Price Of K1 is $4.06 the last time I checked a few days ago....

My wood boiler off sets 12-1500 gallons of oil a year.

    With oil at ~3.50 a gallon that's 4200-5250 in my pocket...(taxfree)

I figure I save $500 or so a year. That's with burning $800 or so worth of pellets and what it costs to run the saws, truck fuel, etc for the wood I gather up. Not a lot of savings, but I keep the house a heck of a lot warmer than I ever did when burning oil.

Depends how long I burn, and how cold it is. I save somewhere around $2500 - $3000 year. Roughly.

Think I save $709-800 month. But I am warmer as well!! I don't calculate the stuff as I had the trucks and saws and mauls before I burned for heat.

My stove/chimney should have more or less paid for itself by the end of this winter. I save ~$2000 per year compared to heating oil (after tax money, as has been pointed out). There's about $12,000 worth of BTU's stacked out back. And there are 5 much happier people in the house all winter - priceless!

By burning wood that I get for free I don't have to buy ~$5000 worth of oil... In order to have $5000 on hand to spend I would have had to gross 6-7k before the gov't took their share.

I haven't bought any propane since February 2011. So for grins I called to see what the price per gallon was from my former supplier. I was shocked when I was told that propane is $3.45 a gallon. At that price it would cost me $800.00 a month to heat my home. At that rate I could replace the old stove in the basement with a matching fire view and it would pay for itself in 3 months. Looks like I will be buying another fire view in the off season.

I save any where from 70 to 150 dollars a month. Plus its much warmer and I don't have to wear multiple layers. With the furnace set at 68\69 degrees.

Thought you must be living at high altitude in SC to be that cold. Even, still, $800 saved is good enough to buy some saws. :D;)
