No coal in this one. 1/2 the grate system isn't there. Bottom half mostly intact(I've had to add back where the old cast iron rotted out in spots), but the shaker isn't. We used to have a nice coal furnace growing up on Long Island.
Resurrecting this hopefully to find it in the fall and get an idea of where the burning is at as opposed to how its going later in the year. No telling what the winter will be like but some of these old threads are really interesting to say the least. At least a bit changes in a couple years.
Let me put this delicately......no..... Very rarely do I think about stove operations in July. I will swap out our current stove for the EePA tube stove that is also in our basement when I feel that we have a enough seasoned wood to support it. May I suggest to you FatBoy85 that you bring your "analysis" down a notch? You might, just maybe, be over thinking this a scootch too much..... After all, it's not as though you're getting ready to perform brain surgery at the onset of the heating season....you're simply going to be lighting a fire. And I believe you'll do just fine.
