I really don’t think there will be any issue at all. Been waiting for her to start to miss pulling the boat. It will be interesting to see what the gap is when I do get after them.
I changed plugs at like 180k. Looked good still, not burnt too bad but double iridium from the factory. Figured I’d spend the money to put the same back in. Never changed a coil in 303k or transmission fluid either or I guess any other fluid other than engine oil every 9k or 6 weeks whatever comes first. Did have to replace the steering rack because it started puking out every orifice though and brakes a couple times.
Still daily driving the 2000 4runner. I put new pads and rotors on over the summer, plus new KYB shocks & struts. Also had to replace the starter last winter. Oh, I replaced the water pump recently just because I was doing a coolant flush. The original still looked and sounded good with 320k and 21 years under its belt. Total parts that had to be replaced in 325k: front wheel bearings, valve cover gasket, starter, blower motor resistor. Everything else has been maintenance or wear items.
I just did the math...320k x 2000 RPM (too low?) is 640,000,000 rotations...and that's assuming zero idle time, and that the water pump is driven 1:1...reality would be that it is probably over driven, so you can probably multiply that number by 150-200%
I'm not sure how to get a solid number without figuring the hours on it. Maybe 75% of my commute is on the highway at 70+ and doing 2500rpm or a bit more. I think it had around 295k when I did the valve cover gasket and I was happy to see how clean it was inside.
Interesting. Probably why you don't see those Pacificas on the road any more. Yeah you'll see the new minivan ones, not the original 2004-08 crossover ones we are talking about. Those aren't that old, there should be plenty on the road. Unless there were big issues, which it sounds like. I had one as a rental in northern California in that time. I thought it was pretty decent.
Bought a 1987 4-runner brand new and ran it for 13 years and 307,000 miles. Paid a bundle for back then at $14,000, but even as old and beat up as that thing was got $1,500 from an individual when I bought a used 1995 4-Runner in the year 2000 (I don't remember the mileage). Worst decision I ever made vehicle wise was trading that 1985 4-Runner, with around 180k miles in for a brand new Xterra in 2004. Although I may have had to put a little money into the 4-Runner, it would have been more reliable and less $$ to upkeep than that POS Nissan. Heck, the 2007 Focus that I bought in 2016 that had already had 199,000 miles on it was more reliable and only needed general maintenance (eh, I may have put a set of brakes on it, I don't really remember). Depending where I have worked I have always put in 60-110 miles round trip for work (not counting 2nd jobs). My commute before the shut down was right at 100 miles a day. However, now that I'm WFH, I rarely get 100 miles in per week. Which means the used 2018 Explorer I bought a couple of months ago with less than 34k on it should last me the rest of my life as long as I can ward the rust off.
]In our stable we have a 2009 Lexus GX470, which is a rebadged V-8 4-runner: 193,000 2006 Toyota Tundra: 133,000. We still occasionally ride in the 2004 Suburban we sold to my brother when we got the GX. The body and interior are shot, but it is still running strong at 288,000. He had to put a lot of money into it, but the transmission and engine have been good. My nephew is driving our sons old 2002 Impala with well over 250,000. The interior and body are shot, but the transmission and engine are both still good.
I had a Celica once back in the 70's, four cylinder five speed. it would not stay tuned, would backfire on shifts. took it in 3 or 4 times and it would only last a 100 miles or so. i didn't have it long.
01 F250 (Tippy) 6.8L. Changed oil in July 244002. Looked today and 246002. Done some work to it, but nothing major, biggest is fuse panel gets wet from leaking door and haven't had much luck sealing it yet so tarp it when not in use. Would love to find something nicer but sure runs well. At least until I can't afford the gas.
Older 4runners in good shape are going for a premium now. Mine isn't worth much being 4cyl and rwd, but it's perfect for me as a daily. It owes me nothing and I'm gonna see how long it'll go.
I had one of those. It was like driving a go kart. 38mpg and super easy to maintain. They all get leaky valve seals and burn oil.
