Have you looked at or considered direct primary care?

Well, I guess it is all in the perspective. I have insurance thru work - total premium for just me is a bit over $1,000 (between what I pay ~30% and what the company picks up). I also have a $6500 deductible. the only good the insurance has done me is to negotiate hospital charges down and I believe they actually paid $200 of the entire bill. That is why I had two jobs for a couple of years.

I made an option at work to go with a high deductible and maximize my contribution to an HSA. I will hopefully retire a couple years before Medicare eligibility. the HSA also can be withdrawn from as an IRA for non health care reasons, after 59 1/2, according to one writer. In addition to whatever plan you choose, the HSA is a good idea if you are able to contribute. This should have been implemented day one, if any of those people in DC cared about the working and earning population. Both sides lie about that.
