I only know about the 50. Seems they've been running that special on the 50 for a few months

Not serious right?.. the rebate may be tricky if I was paying cash for the WH.
I just realized that I always called them “hot water heaters.” Redundant like “toast toaster”

Yes. But I'm not sure if a water heater will fit in the trunk.

See you for lunch around 1 Eric VW

The rebate is federal, so shouldn't matter where you buy it or install it.
Our local electric coop gives a $100 incentive if you let them install a Demand meter.

I’m getting a HPWH. Did you have to worry about ducting? Is it possible to use the chimney as a duct in or out? I know there is some debate as to having only one way out of the house, but our house breathes a lot anyways (is leaky). Less likely, but could I use the ash pit from the old fireplace as another duct (even though the wood stove is there? Assuming there is enough flow past the woodstove, I could disconnect when the stove is running, seasonally. I was thinking intake from the chimney in the summer and output there in the winter. And the opposite side going either up the ash pit or into the basement.
Tell me it is bad ideas.

I guess I don't understand...why do you want to duct it outside? There is really no reason to duct it anywhere unless you are putting it in a small closet, or just want the cool dry air in another area...

It is in a smaller utility room 7x10? With hvac taking up some volume. I like the idea of dry cooler air in the summer, but even then the basement is usually coolest already. It would be nice for a little supplemental cooling in the west facing windows upstairs.. can get hot with the afternoon sun.

Using the chimney as a duct would certainly be unorthodox...might be possible though, maybe...as long as its not being used as a chimney anymore, and is clean and not stinky, as chimneys tend to be...
